Penske Media Corporation (PMC), the parent to Variety, Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, IndieWire, and many more iconic publications, is expanding the payroll team with the addition of a Payroll Analyst in our West Los Angeles headquarters. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Payroll & Benefits and work closely with the corporate HR & Finance team.
The Payroll Analyst will be responsible for the payroll processing for multiple companies/brands within the larger PMC umbrella. Responsibilities
• Input transactions into Ultipro payroll software
• Reacquire, evaluate, and index forwarded forms and documents
• Offer acceptable customer service by analyzing, retrieving, resolving, and researching matters
• Connect with teams to record, resolve, and research on compromising errors and issues
• Work on cyclical processing and end-of-the period activities
• Enhance and update transaction procedures and materials used in training as necessary
• Organize suitable level of functional, and technical processes, as well as training programs
Summary
• Must have the ability to identify, analyze and resolve process and system related problems, develop root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Must be highly motivated to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, garnishment compliance and payroll tax filing.
• Must be flexible and organized to be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while working with little to no supervision.
• Research ongoing public works, projects, and payment requirements for prevailing wage work, including completion and filing of weekly certified payroll reports to outside entities.
• Configuration of all core data elements comprising the current timekeeping system, including downloading data at the end of each pay period to perform payroll processing.
• Research reporting requirements for Finance department and generate and analyze biweekly and semi-monthly payroll reports utilizing the current payroll system.
• Compile complex Ad Hoc reports for executive team, managers and other requesting departments as needed.
• Responsibility of quarterly tax filings and year-end W-2's from current payroll system including making adjustments to earnings and taxes as necessary.
• Analyze and prepare monthly and annual reports of company's W-2 reporting including communications to employees.
• Perform research on payroll related issues, including but not limited to tax withholding, overtime, 401(k) deferrals, loans, LOA's, garnishments and workers compensation for various states.
• Keep abreast of current SOX controls and compile audit data for auditors. Assist with audits, month end closing and special projects as assigned.
• Some data input of payroll related items into current payroll and timekeeping systems.
Your Skills and Background
• Excellent knowledge of web based payroll and timekeeping systems, preferably Ultipro.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state wage and hour and tax reporting laws.
• Must be meticulous and follow-up on requests and/or projects
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment working under little to no supervision.
• Inclination to analyze and implement successful solutions. Thinking outside the box.
• High level of integrity and confidentiality in addition to strong communication skills.
• Knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, payments and documentation.
• Development and documentation of payroll process and procedures.
• Knowledge of reporting systems and an intermediate to advanced knowledge level of Microsoft Excel.
• Education and/or Experience - 5 years of related experience and/or training applies.
