The Pixar Software R&D team (internally known as ''Studio Tools'') develops and supports Pixar's proprietary, open-source, and 3rd party software that is used in the production of Pixar's feature films and streaming content. The Vice President leads all aspects of both the engineering and project management efforts of the team to balance the needs of active productions and long-term studio initiatives. The goal of the Studio Tools department is to deliver innovative, industry-leading technologies and tools to Pixar artists and filmmakers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain and continue to evolve a coherent and forward-looking technology strategy and roadmap
• Collaborate and work closely with studio partners (e.g. VFX Supervisors) in production and technology to identify emerging production challenges and implement effective, innovative solutions
• Lead and represent the engineering and project management teams
• Collaborate with Production to facilitate rotation of Production personnel into Tools and Tools personnel into Production
• Build and cultivate relationships with researchers and colleagues at Pixar, Disney Research, and the other studios within The Walt Disney Company
• Maintain a relationship with major 3rd party vendors (e.g. Autodesk, SideFX, Foundry)
• Participate in external events; in particular, SIGGRAPH
• Build and sustain a healthy, positive, and inclusive working environment that facilitates the efficient and creative development of world-class technology
REQUIREMENTS:
• 10+ years experience managing and leading a software development/product team or similar leadership experience
• MS or equivalent experience is desirable
• A good track record of demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills
• Strong project management skills required
• Entertainment industry and/or computer graphics experience required
• You have the ability to learn and converse fluently in technical discussions
• You closely follow industry trends and new technologies
