As a Senior Systems Engineer at Pixar, you will build and maintain our production-facing high-performance computing infrastructure. You will be part of a team of engineers delivering this vital infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and scalability. You will have the ability to pave the way for our next-generation render farm and impact how it's configured, maintained, and monitored.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design, deploy, and operate crucial render farm infrastructure for the studio
• Assist with capacity forecasts for key resources
• Operate with the goal of making programmatic provisioning of infrastructure the default
• Define and document standard run books and operating procedures
• Actively ensure peak levels of systems and infrastructure uptime
• Run benchmarking suites on next-gen hardware to quantify performance gains
• Implement a modern monitoring platform to gauge the health of key infrastructure
• Collaborate across departments to evolve systems standards studio-wide
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5 years of broad experience in system administration supporting Linux (RedHat/CentOS preferred), preferably automated OS installation, software compilation, package management, machine provisioning and lifecycle management, diagnostic and performance troubleshooting/profiling
• Expertise in troubleshooting highly complex systems
• Deep understanding of Revision Control Systems, preferably Perforce and Git
• Minimum of 2 years of working with and maintaining configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt, or similar)
• Proficient in one or more scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash, etc.)
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree or work experience
BONUS POINTS:
• Experience with virtualization and container platforms (Docker, VMWare, KVM, Kubernetes, etc)
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and monitoring tools (OpenStack, Zabbix, Sensu, or similar)
• Experience with Cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform
