We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Vice President, Communications Strategy (SVPCS) with the Communications Department. This position will be responsible for overseeing and managing the communications functions and strategy across all departments of the organization, including business operations, basketball operations and arena operations. The SVPCS will work with Suns and Mercury business and basketball leadership to create and implement a comprehensive and integrated communications strategy that aligns all internal and external messaging. This role will also serve as a key internal and external liaison for the Suns, Mercury, and Footprint Center. This position requires strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational and crisis management skills to set a clear vision for our overall communications strategy. Demonstrating sound judgment and fostering trust are also key requirements of this role to optimally promote and protect the organization and its constituent parts.

What Will You Do:
• Work closely with the President & CEO, Suns General Manager, Mercury President, Mercury General Manager, Arena General Manager, Chief Revenue Officer, and other senior leaders to drive both strategic and daily communications activities and support key business, basketball, and arena operations priorities;
• Provide a forward-looking planned approach to the organization’s communications strategies with strong ability to shape narratives to enhance the image of our players, coaches, front office and organization for all critical audiences including (i) NBA front
• offices, agents, athletes and League officials, (ii) national and local NBA/WNBA media, (iii) season ticket holders and engaged Suns and Mercury fans, (iv) national NBA/WNBA and local social media influencers
• Develop, cultivate and maintain productive relationships with influential local and national reporters, as well as local Suns, Mercury and national NBA sand WNBA social media influencers, while continuously growing the number, strength and diversity of media contacts;
• Protect and enhance the reputation of the organization in the media, including delivering effective issues management and crisis communications on issues in the media or that could be issues in the media;
• Coordinate crisis management activities, including preparation and implementation of the plan in the event of a crisis incident;
• Provide counsel, coaching and media training for top executives and player personnel, including developing and maintaining an organization-wide media training program;
• Coalition with NBA and WNBA office and team PR representatives on coordination and delivery of all NBA and WNBA Communications needs;
• Work collaboratively with internal content teams (digital / social / marketing / creative) to help proactively tell our story;
• Help recruit, coach, cultivate, inspire, mentor and motivate the communications teams within the organization;
• Periodically attend practices, shootarounds and travel for Suns and Mercury games, NBA and WNBA events and other promotional activities to ensure an integrated approach between Basketball Operations and Business Operations;
• Draft, prepare and control the communications annual budget;
• Other duties as assigned.

What We Need From Our Sr. VP:
• Knowledge and understanding of digital media and public relations strategy as well as the importance of connected storytelling efforts;
• Knowledge and understanding of the basketball operations landscape, including experience navigating on- and off-court matters.
• Demonstrated leadership in creating and implementing a communication plan;
• Must have solid knowledge of the NBA and WNBA statistics and basketball terminology.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) and possess social media and technology-based program skills;
• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to effectively partner with senior management, athletes and the media;
• Must possess good judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills;
• Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks;
• Able to work flexible schedule when required, including evenings and weekends
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Leads all aspects of a team of communications professionals. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies
• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and develop employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• This role will administer Suns, Mercury, Footprint Center, and Suns Legacy Partners Communication strategy.
• This role will strategize and lead the Basketball and Business Communications (Suns and Mercury)
Experience/ Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations or a related field; advanced degree is preferred;
• A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive communications/public relations experience with five (5) in a senior communications management role; sports and entertainment industry experience preferred.
