PBS Distribution (PBSd) is a leading distributor of public media content around the world, reaching audiences through multiple platforms and formats while generating revenue for the public media system, stations, and producers. Extending our reach beyond broadcast, we operate five streaming channels on Amazon Prime Video Channels.
PBSd is seeking a highly organized and dynamic individual to lead the digital scheduling for content releases. This individual has Content Scheduling or Programming for digital media, SVOD and/or AVOD organization or related experience.
Job Summary:
The Director, Digital Scheduling is responsible for the technical execution of the content release schedule across PBSd's global suite of digital platforms. This position facilitates on-time content launches across partners and platforms including TVOD, Subscription Channels, AVOD, SVOD and educational video. This position is responsible for transforming the editorial vision of business teams into a unified, executable release schedule which achieves overall business goals.
The Director leads and supports the Scheduling team, and coordinates with rights management, production, and creative services to set optimal launch dates for content on digital platforms. S/he will draw on cross functional business and technical skills to assess and manage risks, measure, and report on progress, anticipate and resolve barriers, escalate issues when necessary, recommend and implement solutions, and enhance operational processes.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Lead PBSd's digital scheduling function to support our growing distribution business across VOD, streaming and educational platforms by ensuring accurate, on-time content launches.
• Direct day-to-day activities of the scheduling team, including resource planning, prioritization, development of policies and procedures and the maintenance of operational excellence.
• Responsible for continuous improvement of internal processes to support streamlined data workflows, on-time delivery, increased operational efficiency, reduced complexity, and long-term planning and transparency.
• Execute on content release plans received from business owners and provide status reports on progress and obstacles.
• Develop and publish a rolling 6-month content release calendar across lines of business based on content plans from business leads.
• Oversee delivery of EMA avails to all digital partners as well as related data management functions to ensure on time accurate and timely content launches.
• Coordinate with creative services and production operations to set optimal delivery timelines for metadata, art, and video assets to ensure successful content launches.
• Partner with rights management to ensure all media rights metadata for content launches and takedowns is accurate.
• Develop and manage strong external relationships with digital partners and serve as primary point of contact for content launch calendars.
• Manage technology projects related to scheduling functions and systems.
• Manage operational onboarding process for new digital partners.
• Professionally develop team members collectively and individually.
Work Experience:
• 7-10 years' experience in Content Scheduling/Programming for digital media, SVOD and/or AVOD organization or related experience.
• Proven track record of effectively managing and reporting on detail-oriented projects and managing teams to achieve goals.
• Experience developing cross departmental partnerships with key stakeholders.
• Experience managing a team; effectively providing feedback for continuous growth and development.
• Experience with account management and interfacing with clients and vendors.
Education/Training: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Technical Skills:
• Mastery of digital video delivery platforms, technologies, devices, and systems.
• Significant experience leading teams to schedule digital media assets across multiple platforms and partners.
• Expertise in metadata standards and rights management industry best practices and standards such as the EMA avail specification.
• Experience with planning and rights management systems such as Wrike, RightsLine or equivalent technologies.
• Expertise in project management skills - the ability to collect project requirements, author a plan with goals and timelines, delegate tasks efficiently with concise instructions, and follow through to on-time completion.
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to clearly communicate results and escalate as needed.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changing priorities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with evolving technology and processes.
• Exceptional ability to optimize operational processes by aligning business solutions with people skills and technology.
• Demonstrated ability to identify potential issues, propose and implement solutions.
Location:
PBS Distribution (PBSd) is headquartered in Arlington, VA with an additional office In Boston, MA. The preferred location for the Director, Digital Scheduling Is Arlington, VA. Due to COVID-19 all employees are currently 100% remote.
