Paramount has an exciting opportunity! We are seeking a VP of Original Programming to own the commissioning process of our locally produced originals for all P international territories. This individual will partner closely with our internal studio (Viacom International Studio) and all of the regional content teams to identify potential series (scripted and factual) and movies, solicit feedback from all the regions, and manage projects all the way through the greenlighting process.
Reporting to the SVP of Content Strategy & Acquisitions in New York, this is a key role on the international streaming content team that will help define and implement our content proposition and programming strategy for all of our international P markets. They will lead both the creative and administrative processes of our commissioning initiatives.
We are looking for an experienced and innovative candidate that has a proven track record of identifying and championing content that will appeal to a wide variety of audiences. Relationship management is a fundamental part of this role, acting as a key contact for production companies during the development and production process, offering advice and mentorship on our requirements, feedback on pitches, and encouraging collaborative working relationships. The position can be based in New York, Los Angeles or London.
Overview & Responsibilities:
• Lead the development phases for both series and movies from original pitch to execution, providing notes in line with the vision of the project
• Hear and respond to pitches; evaluate new project submissions to assess their value as it relates to the creative direction
• Centralize all submissions sourced from multiple P regions, solicit feedback from all territories in an effort to determine viability for pan-regional productions
• Work with peers from the US studios on potential collaborations
• Guides creators from the pitch stage through outline, script, production and post; formulates and drafts notes on scripts and cuts
• Reviews all aspects of production: budget, casting, scripts, communications, final delivery, and critique
• Builds and maintains active relationships within the creative community – agents, writers, producers, talent, etc.
• Liaisons with all supporting departments including: Marketing, Press, Research, Digital, Social and Business & Legal Affairs
• Encourages innovative thought and behavior and serves as an example to all staff employees
• Acts in an ethical manner and adheres to the ViacomCBS code of conduct policies at all times
• Travel will be necessary
Basic Qualifications:
• 10 years of experience in content development & current programming with a significant tenure within either a Studio or an established independent production company
• 5 years in an executive capacity with experience at a studio, channel/platform or production company
• Demonstrated track record developing/producing commercially successful scripted and/or factual series
Additional Qualifications:
• Extensive knowledge of the entertainment media industry
• Strong, established relationships with key players in the TV industry, including talent, agents, production companies, producers, writers, etc.
• Excellent writing and storytelling skills with strong knowledge of script structure; must be proficient at writing notes and giving direction
• Strong creative reputation with an established network of contacts and relationships within the industry
• An ability to communicate effectively with the creative community as well as the logistical and financial side of production
• Possesses the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high-volume workload
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital in order to liaise with a range of people and personalities, from channel executives to production staff, to talent agents and actors
• Well suited to a fast-paced, globally dispersed environment and highly self-motivated
• Must have strong problem solving and decision-making abilities and be able to handle conflict in a professional manner
