OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Looking for an exciting career change at one of the largest media companies in the world? Then this may be an amazing opportunity for you! We're searching for an incredible Manager to join our Production Clearances & Licensing Operations team!
Our ideal candidate will be responsible for the clearances of media assets in content across Paramount Media Network brands and will be at the forefront of the production process communicating regularly with production (in-house and/or third party), production management, creative, Marketing, business development, Business and Legal Affairs, and IP Litigation teams pushing forward strategy and securing clearances to achieve creative vision.
• Handle licensing responsibilities for projects throughout all phases of production, from pre-production to post; work closely and collaborate with client partners at all stages of the creative and production process to flag rights issues/necessary permission, and propose alternative solutions during the content production and execution process
• Conduct copyright research and facilitate clearance requests. Negotiate licenses and permissions with copyright owners of music, film, TV, photography, viral footage, video games, digital content, books, magazines, etc. Track and process all license payments.
• Regular reporting of clearance costs to Production and Production Management via tracking grids and over the phone/via email. Work closely with these areas and proactively suggest cost-saving options and alternatives.
• Use existing rights management systems to track and report availability of programming to various departments for distribution
• Review and draft license agreements. Maintain contract files and build reports for all assigned programs/projects and ensure that licenses are executed and paid in a timely manner
• Work alongside Legal, vet content for legal matters including Public Domain, Fair Use, Defamation, Rights of Publicity as well as Script Clearance review
• Manage a heavy workload of third-party clearances for in-depth archival programming, news and reality content as well as scripted series
• Collaborate with Senior Vice President and Vice President in the preparation of budgets, development of strategies, evaluation of rights and implementation of procedures to work within production budgets
• Attend greenlight meetings with Production and Development team
• Occasionally oversee project-based employees and/or interns
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least 5 years’ experience in a production company, advertising agency, film studio, television network, or archival research/clearances
• Must have a strong understanding, along with practical implementation, of the law in regard to Public Domain, Fair Use, Defamation and Rights of Publicity
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to accurately analyze and interpret complex license agreements
• Ability to apply concepts such as Most Favored Nations and split copyright percentages, and apply them to practical situations, e.g., budgeting, tracking reports
• Ability to draw conclusions from working knowledge of issues and risk that impact the area of rights licensing including copyright & trademark law and union/guild issues
• Ability to make effective presentations on rights and licensing related topics to client groups and employees
• Experience with a variety of programming - editorial, reality and scripted, including script clearance review preferred.
• Tech-savvy individual proficient in all current document and database systems
• Excellent negotiation skills
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communications skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills (including the ability to effectively interact with a range of personalities and styles to establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization)
• A proactive contributor who can work both independently and collaboratively
• Ability to handle highly confidential information and material appropriately
• Comprehensive understanding media industry trends for new partnership and cross-promotional opportunities

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Hiring Salary Range: $85,000 - $93,000. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
