CBS Newspath is looking for high-energy, inquisitive, multi-skilled journalist who is a strong storyteller with outstanding news judgement. Must be able to multi-task under deadline and turn compelling, accurate reporter packages on major national news and enterprise stories for Newspath’s 200 affiliates and clients. The reporter should be passionate about owning the story every step of the way, from pitch to producing, shooting, writing, and editing.
Responsibilities:
• Covering scheduled news events and breaking news
• Shooting, writing, tracking, and editing stories
• Traveling and reporting live from various locations
• Pitching and developing stories that are of interest to a national audience
• Generating content and enterprising ideas for linear and digital platforms
• Gathering news elements and shooting packages in the field
• Pursuing newsmakers and conducting interviews
• Updating story editorial for all time zones during shift
• Communicating frequently and optimally
• Encouraging a highly collaborative, productive working environment
• Following CBS News editorial guidance and standards in all aspects of reporting
• Representing company expertly at all times in public interactions
• Maintaining all company-issued technology, equipment and vehicles, and initiate troubleshooting/repairs.
Requirements:
• 5 years experience as an on-air multiskilled journalist (shooting and editing your stories) in a medium to large market.
• Must provide reel demonstrating reporting skills as well as photography and editing skills.
• High level of proficiency with video editing software such as Avid.
• Must have technical troubleshooting ability for computer software, camera equipment and video transmission
• Must be physically able to carry, shoulder and shoot with a broadcast ENG camera (25 lbs. or more) as well as carry necessary equipment (tripod, lights, microphones, etc.).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills required.
• Able to work an adaptable schedule in a 24/7 news environment in addition to standard hours
• Degree in Journalism, Communications and/or Broadcasting preferred
