The Technical Direction Manager – Studio, reports to Senior Director, Production Operations, works closely with production and engineering in maintaining and updating all switchers, automation systems, and associated equipment, and is responsible for final product output of studio broadcasts to Network Specifications. Prospective candidates must have experience in both studio and remote live multi-camera productions and perform duties in order to technical direct all aspects of daily and weekly sports broadcasts
Responsibilities
• Follow instructions from directors during productions: Executing error-free camera cuts, effects, graphics, and takes; Creating & executing video transitions and special effects; Checking and switching between video sources during broadcast. Expertly operate equipment to produce and broadcast live studio programs and live programs from remote locations.
• Code show rundowns, Direct and operate studio automation systems for selected shows.
• Maintain, Program and Operate equipment: Developing, Testing, and troubleshooting equipment functionality issues; reporting issues and ensuring repairs are made in a timely manner.
• Integrate new equipment that we bring to our production facility and determine a plan for maintaining and updating it along with training other staff and freelance personnel in its use.
• Act as a liaison between engineering and production departments: Confer with operations directors in order to formulate and maintain fair and attainable technical policies for programs and studios; producing detailed reports for production events.
• Supervise technical crews during shows: Train workers in use of equipment such as switchers, cameras, monitors, audio equipment, and lighting; Supervise and assign duties to workers engaged in technical roles during productions; overseeing camera and video staff concerning shading and shot composition.
• Perform other duties as directed by Senior Director, Production Operations which may include assisting in the production of various program elements, as well as direct and technical direct additional programs.
Requirements
• Four-year degree in television or related field or demonstrate equivalent professional experience
• Minimum 5 years as a Technical Director in a major market with experience in broadcast television production for television newscasts live or taped special events/sports and programming.
• Ability to supervise and/or independently set up and operate a control room and studio in order to facilitate productions and to switch fast-paced live programs with multiple live studio camera shots, external and internal video feeds, graphics, audio and other content.
• Must be flexible, capable of handling multiple assignments, work well under pressure, thrive under tight deadlines.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible schedules including evenings, overnights, and most weekends and holidays.
• Must possess an acute visual sense, strong leadership, and organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
• Applicants must have experience with SONY switchers, ideally MVS-7000, Sony HD cameras and digital effects, enterprise media asset management systems, Windows and Mac based computer applications, routers, lighting systems and audio applications. Experience with Evertz, Abekas, Chyron, Camio, Luci, ISQ, Viz Mosart, Sony ELC, Ross Overdrive or Grass Valley Ignite studio automation, Calrec Audio and Dalet is a plus.
• Must be able to handle multiple personalities with changing requirements while projecting an appropriate professional, positive and cooperative attitude and rapport with staff, management, and clients.
