Freelance Job
The Editorial Production Assistant will be responsible for programming and packaging content for Pac-12.com and our Pac-12 Now mobile app. They will also distribute our content to syndication partners and communicate to audiences across relevant hours of the day and night. They will master Pac-12.com production tools for creating audience-facing pages and site features. The job is headquartered in San Francisco with evening and weekend work as dictated by events and 20 - 30 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pac-12.com and Pac-12 Now programming and packaging
• Update Pac-12.com with relevant photos, informative headlines, tease copy, and links
• Send Pac-12 Now push notifications to fans with breaking news, highlights, and social media content attached
• Send Pac-12 Now push notifications promoting games, programming and overall audience growth
• Use data-driven insights provided by management and our content analyst to prioritize content creation for audience growth
• Help schedule live events in SnappyTV or another cloud-based editing platform
Pac-12.com and Pac-12 Now production
• Use site production tools to create new pages and features to fill the gap between content producers and web developers
• Address errors, outages, and broken functionality or escalate as necessary
• Pay close and active attention to our highlight video sources/rights agreements and best practices – and facilitate video/photo requests from Pac-12 schools
• Embrace and contribute to Slack channels in support of production
Schools and syndication partners
• Publish content for use on 3rd party platforms with whom we share content including Pac-12 member schools
• Populate feeds, tag and title content, and communicate with editorial leads to troubleshoot obstacles and surface the best items to partners
• Add to the Pac-12 Networks YouTube channel with relevant videos, SEO friendly titles, and teases, curate YouTube playlists
• Communicate to schools and external stakeholders
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, sports management or a related field
• Deeply knowledgeable about Pac-12 schools, sports, and teams
• Demonstrable experience and aptitude for web publishing tools including:
• Photo editing software (Photoshop, etc.)
• Drupal-based Content Management Systems
• Video publishing via YouTube
• Experience in writing using AP Style, copyediting and preparing content for web and app alert publishing (some HTML preferred)
• Engaging written voice that matches Pac-12 Networks social and digital platforms
• A self-starter requiring little oversight while maintaining excellent attention to detail
• Willing to work hours as dictated by the digital news cycle and sports including evening and weekends
• A collaborative, passionate, team-first attitude towards building audience and engagement
