Full Time Job
The Communications Manager reports to the Director, Communications and involves developing both internal and external communications strategies for Pac-12 Enterprises and working closely with all departments. The Communications Manager will be based in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement strategic PR programs to achieve significant increases in brand awareness
• Identify key media outlets and influencers
• Develop compelling story angles to help promote all aspects of Pac-12 Networks
• Cultivate relationships with key business journalists from local, national and trade outlets
• Pitch stories to both national and local media. Achieve highest visibility for in print, broadcast, TV, and online media outlets
• Develop and execute on-air talent schedules to promote Pac-12 Networks brand and programming schedule
• Write clear and compelling pitch letters, press releases and by-lined articles
• Identify media trends, news cycles, and spin opportunities and proactively manage editorial calendars
• Manage Pac-12 Networks award submission process
• Analyze and measure the results of PR programs
• Manage budgets and campaign ROI
• Other duties as assigned by the Director, Communications
Requirements
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in public relations and communications and BS/BA degree
• A strong network of 828 and B2C, national business, and trade media contacts
• Established relationships with general business, consumer and entertainment trade press/analyst/blogger communities
• Proven successes in both traditional and interactive PR channels
• Acute sense of judgment, tact, and diplomacy
• A strong-sense of teamwork and the ability to both manage and execute programs
• Knowledge of international publications and opportunities is a plus
• Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written communication skills
• Proficiency with basic computer and PR applications including Cision, CatchPole, Google Docs and News Alerts, MS Office Apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, )
• Additional technology prowess (WordPress, videoblogging)
• Avid consumer of news, sports, entertainment and pop culture
• Strong personal interest in collegiate sports
• Strong national sports press contacts
• Some travel may be required
Preferred
• Experience in the media industry
• Knowledge of digital media industry including online, mobile, tablets and other emerging technologies
