Ohio University Theater Division invites applicants for a full time Lecturer of Sound Design, beginning Fall 2019. Salary commensurate with experience. Because the university seeks faculty members who bring a critical perspective to issues of diversity and multiculturalism, the College of Fine Arts is invested in hiring faculty members who can contribute to the climate of diversity in the Theater Division.
The Production Design and Technology (PD&T) program is committed to a collaborative design process and professional training in theatrical design and technology, preparing students for careers in New York, Chicago, regional and/or international theater markets.
Nine-month renewable non-tenure track appointment. Generous benefits: tuition for self and dependents, comprehensive insurance package, excellent retirement plan, parental leave, adoption reimbursement, wellness programs and facilities, and employee assistance program.
Minimum Qualifications:
• MFA or equivalent professional experience in Sound Design.
• Experience in sound design for both musicals and plays.
• Background in professional theatrical design and/or entertainment industry, with connections to professional markets.
• Knowledge of industry standard sound equipment and software, including QLab, Vectorworks and industry-standard DAWs.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in university teaching.
• Experience teaching and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
• Experience in theatrical media design.
• Ongoing professional engagement.
Responsibilities:
Artistic and educational leadership for sound design and production. Teaching in MFA and BFA programs: Sound Design, Sound Production and Introduction to Design. Strong mentorship of students is critical. Additional duties: oversight of AV needs, budgeting of sound, media and lighting areas, student recruitment, service on academic committees.
This position requires days, nights, and weekends, including, but not limited to, technical and dress rehearsals. Hours required as dictated by academic and production schedules.
