Search for Costume Shop Manager jobs in Athens-OH
The College of Fine Arts and the School of Theater are seeking applications for a Manager of The Costume Shop. The primary duties of this position include:
1. Direct the everyday operation of the costume shop, via group and one on one educational mentoring and teaching.
2. Instruct undergrad and grad students on a daily basis.
3. Construct costumes for mainstage productions on a daily basis.
4. Maintain the order of the costume stock and costume facility and oversee repair of costume equipment on a weekly basis.
5. Purchase supplies and equipment and maintain the costume shop on a weekly basis.
In regards to the instructional component of the position, the selected candidate will be expected to-
1. Instruct undergrad and grad students on a daily basis.
a. Instruct practicum students in the techniques needed for costume construction, fitting, and project management on a daily basis. (E.g. the use of sewing equipment, hand sewing skills, cutting and layout skills, alteration techniques, and pattern drafting.)
b. Team teach with faculty: THAR 1393 Fundamentals of Costumes; and graduate and undergraduate practicum.
c. Evaluate and grade practicum student performance in the costume shop.
2. Direct the everyday operation of the costume shop, via group and one on one educational mentoring and teaching.
a. Instruct and supervise student crews and student staff in the construction of costumes for mainstage productions in collaboration with the costume faculty. (Including orienting and instructing students about the facility and shop methodologies and standards; and assigning tasks and instructing students in these tasks.)
b. Instruct and supervise wardrobe run crews for mainstage productions. Attend dress rehearsals as an advisor to the wardrobe run crews and supervise laundry and costume repair during productions.
c. Interview, hire, schedule and train costume craft Work Study and PACE personnel.
d. Share the supervision and instruction of student fittings with the costume faculty.
e. Supervise and instruct students in costume rentals and the pulling of lab shows.
f. Orient and instruct students in OSHA safety training procedures.
g. Direct the delivery of all of the costumes to the productions on time and done well by collaborating with the costume faculty to instruct students in work methodologies for timely completion and enforcement of shop construction deadlines.
Other duties include-
3. Construct costumes for mainstage productions on a daily basis.
a. Drape (or develop patterns) and construct garments (of any time period or style) from sketches
b. Maintain professional standards for all technical work.
4. Maintain the order of the costume stock and costume facility and oversee repair of costume equipment on a weekly basis.
a. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the costume shop.
b. Supervise strike for each production in collaboration with the costume faculty.
c. Supervise the delivery and return of the dry cleaning for productions.
d. Determine the repair needs for the costume shop equipment and ship (or deliver and pick up) items for repair.
5. Purchase supplies and equipment and maintain the costume shop on a weekly basis.
a. Maintain petty cash and P-card purchasing records. Prepare requisition paperwork as needed.
6. Prepare costume equipment request lists and research pricing and resources for PD&T grant applications (1804 grants, etc.) in collaboration with the costume faculty.
a. Instruct student designers on purchasing procedures in collaboration with the costume faculty.
b. Keep records on costume rentals, daily crew attendance sheets, student crew production work agreements, fitting schedules, fitting request sheets, fitting notes, measurement sheets, PACE time sheets, and work-study time sheets in collaboration with the costume faculty.
c. Maintain OSHA safety conditions and procedures in the costume shop. Maintain the OSHA Shop Safety book.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree, with at least three (3) years of related work experience and at least three (3) years of management experience.
