Ohio University's School of Theater seeks a teaching artist/educator with a strong background in costume technology to contribute to the delivery of the overall curriculum of the Production, Design, and Technology Area as well as the MFA in Theater Technology.
The desired candidate will embrace and reflect a wide and multi-cultural view that enables students to be artistic leaders in a more inclusive world. With a balanced focus on both the theoretical/aesthetic phenomena of theatrical design and the practical applications of realized productions, the School of Theater values process-based methodologies that prepare students to be theater artists, practitioners, and innovators for the 21st century.
The School of Theater is actively seeking an individual who, through personal practice and/or research, will broaden the diversity of perspectives available to our students. As we answer the need for a theater that reflects the contemporary moment and carries us into the future, we encourage Black, Indigenous, and artists of color to apply. The desired candidate will embrace and reflect an anti-racist and multi-cultural view that enables students to be artistic leaders in a more inclusive world.
Responsibilities
Teach and develop a rotation of modular studio classes in the candidate's area of specialization including but not limited to: Costume Technology, Stage Make-up, Costume Crafts, etc.
Teach interdisciplinary design classes within the broader design area as applicable e.g.: Stagecraft: Costume and Wardrobe, Production Practicum, Theater Business, etc.
Through facilitating graduate and undergraduate students, lead in the implementation of production elements for School of Theater productions.
Supervise and mentor student technicians. This will include portfolio guidance and facilitation of professional internships.
Participate in annual production planning.
Management of the School of Theater's costume stock and direction/facilitation of graduate students assigned to that endeavor.
Serve on School of Theater committees and graduate thesis panels as assigned by the School of Theater Director and/or Production, Design, & Technology Co-chairs.
