POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Concessions & Merchandise is responsible for ensuring the fans concession experience is positive and furthers their engagement with the A's. This position will serve as the primary liaison between the A's and its concessions partner(s). The Director of Concessions & Merchandise will oversee all food and beverage areas as well as merchandise stands while enhancing the fan experience, engagement and overall satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
• Evaluate operations including concessions, premium services, hospitality, clubhouse, restaurant & retail operations, suite services, as well as create recommendations to enhance fan experience and increase revenue and profitability.
• Work with concessionaire leadership to challenge current service levels and incorporate change, improvements or enhancements that will continue to exceed the needs and expectations of the fans and management.
• Monitor game day concessions and merchandise operations to ensure they are operating at maximum service and performance levels.
• Collaborate with the A's concessions partner(s) on decisions related to menu, pricing, staffing and incentive programs.
• Collect feedback from A's fans and stakeholders regarding concessions; determine and execute appropriate follow-up.
• Conduct game-day briefings to relevant union staff members so they have the proper information and are aware of game-specific changes / programs.
• Collaborate on creating vision and recommendations for long-term goals and strategies for stadium concessions.
• Conduct regular scheduled meetings to ensure lines of communication are open between concessionaire, their team members and A's management team.
• Contribute to concessions strategy development in the new ballpark design and planning process.
• Collaborate with the A's finance, strategy, partnerships, and technology teams on comprehensive management of concessions.
• Active, professional engagement of A's front office staff, fans, and merchandise and concessions partners on game days.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
• Follow industry trends and best practices and actively identify opportunities to improve the fan experience.
• Monitor local food preparation and handling regulations and ensure concessionaire is following all current safety and sanitation requirements.
• Review any county health inspection reports and ensure resolution to any findings.
• Act as a liaison with the concessionaire on any union issues; stay informed and have a full knowledge of the collective bargaining agreement between concessionaire and union.
• Work with concessionaire on both pre-season and in-season training of service staff; review all training agendas and being present at trainings.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management or a minimum of 3-5 years' work experience in the guest services and/or food service industries.
• Possess a valid Food Safety Manager Certification.
• Experience working with a collective bargaining agreement with union labor and management.
• Must be a self-starter and require minimal supervision and direction in achieving individual/organizational revenue objectives.
• Must maintain high standards in the areas of quality and quantity of work as well as personal, professional conduct and appearance.
• Must have a proactive approach, initiative and the ability to anticipate problems and propose appropriate solutions.
• Ability to multitask and work under strict deadlines.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate the game schedule
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
