Role Summary
A DevOps Engineer works on a cross-discipline team to build products, services, or tools to support the NPR Digital Network.
They should have good working knowledge of Linux or Unix server administration, experience with several scripting languages, and a working knowledge of common open source automation and orchestration tools and technologies (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Jenkins, Github, Zabbix, etc). This person should also have experience with cloud based technologies, tools and services (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, etc).
They produce solid, documented and high-quality devops related code that adheres to our standards and best practices. While trusted to design and deliver upon more simple technical designs, they may still require direction for more complicated projects and tasks. They are receptive to feedback and also begin to propose improvements to management and other members of the team.

Day to day activities
• Participate in daily stand-ups and other scrum activities (e.g. grooming, planning, demos and retrospectives) as required.
• Contribute high-quality, documented devops related code in accordance with department standards, best practices and processes based on self- and team-assigned stories.
• Create infrastructure technical designs and incorporate feedback from others.
• Proactively react to and resolve issues identified by monitoring platforms.
• Proactively react to and resolve service desk related tickets as they arise.
• Provide constructive criticism of infrastructure designs and devops related code written by peers.
• Participate in and help support code deployments to production systems.
• Join the DevOps “on-call” rotation after approximately 3 months.
• May be required to travel to remote datacenter as needed.
