Overview:
Assists in planning and producing material for Ask Me Another (AMA), an hour-long program featuring puzzles, word games, and trivia played with a live audience. Content for digital media is an integral part of NPR's product and employee will be expected to produce audio and digital material. Responsible for producing and publishing digital copy for weekly build-outs. Shows interest and the ability to work with NPR’s Online Production team. And proves to be a team leader for digital and social media outreach, directly responsible for generating social media posts and maintaining an active role in keeping Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media accounts active and growing. Edits audio of live show, games and interviews, with quick turnaround. Part of live event production.
Essential Duties:
• Participates in the live-to-tape recordings of Ask Me Another (AMA), ensuring that the show adheres to NPR’s standards of radio production; and helps coordinate and implement all communication between the Supervising Senior Producer and the show’s contestants and guests.
• Generates segment and guest interview ideas.
• Pitches ideas for show segments like Mystery Guest and Meet The Expert, which feature interesting non-famous guests that we want to highlight and showcase, with a mind towards diversity of expertise and identity.
• Assists in pre-production elements, including game ideas, preparing audio clips, segment ideas, etc.
• Prepares scripts and other materials as required.
• Aids in the event logistics for live recording events in Brooklyn, as well as remote recordings around the country.
• Help manage comp ticket requests for live shows in New York City and on road trips.
• Publishes new weekly episodes using Seamus, and assist producers in publishing repeat episodes, interfacing with Online Production when necessary
• Edits show segments using ProTools on a quick production schedule, including game segments and interview segments
• Writes, records and mixes station promos when necessary.
• Help to monitor finished programs for errors before it’s distributed to stations for broadcast.
• Writes program and web copy.
• Writes transitional copy as well as promos.
• Leads the digital publication of AMA, coordinating with NPR Digital to get the show posted each week.
• Supervises content, quality and production of program segments to ensure consistency with NPR formats and standards.
• Manages official social media accounts, including scheduling and maintaining a calendar of social media posts, assisting in marketing live shows, and responding to audience comments received via social media.
• Responsible for internal communications — specifically coordinating air/live event schedule with Sponsorship, Live Events teams, Programming, and NPR One as necessary
• Takes lead on formulation of compilation/fundraising episodes.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Required:
• Ability to edit audio, preferably in ProTools.
• Experience fact checking, with ability to collect, organize and disseminate information.
• Thorough knowledge of research tools, including computer access data banks.
• Demonstrated writing ability to write clearly and concisely, yet with the ability to maintain the tone of the show.
• Demonstrated ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure.
• Ability to handle more than one assignment at a time; ability to prioritize, anticipate and communicate effectively.
• Ability and willingness to work varied shifts.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
• Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating, at all times, respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
• Ability and willingness to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations. Severance provisions of the AFTRA collective bargaining agreement will apply should you choose not to accept a transfer.
• Strong/expert organization, scheduling
• Digital media skills, including proficiency in social media
Preferred:
• Experience in radio broadcasting.
• Experience in live event production.
• Experience producing in and operating digital audio self-op facilities.
• Experience in comedy writing, trivia, pop culture, games is a bonus.
• Interest in developing new segment ideas to showcase our show’s strengths in new/innovative ways
