Qualifications:
Minimum five years experience in deadline-driven journalism editorial decision-making, strong editing and research skills.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Acts as editor for newscaster copy.
• Edits reports from freelance, contract and staff reporters when necessary, in coordination with other desk editors and as assigned by the Newscast Producer.
• Monitors feeds of special events coverage and other daily feeds pertinent to breaking news.
• Writes news copy and occasionally may cut and produce audio for the newscasts if necessary
• Provides editorial continuity for the proceeding news shifts
• Emphasis on accuracy in regard to facts, historical background, pronunciations- with strong and fast research skills to ensure mistake-free broadcasts
• Has a deft touch balancing phrasing and grammatical/syntax issues while respecting the anchor’s voice and approach to broadcast delivery
• Has an awareness of the fact the newscasts are being repurposed as visual digital content and factors in how copy writing can impact the visual presentation
This position is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The minimum salary for this position is $90,000.
