Full Time Unpaid Internship
Overview
This internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in Resource Development working with a seasoned team of development professionals at NPR West and with our Development colleagues at NPR’s headquarters. The intern will support the Individual and Institutional fundraising teams in raising funds to support NPR’s important work. This internship is located at NPR West in Culver City, CA.
Goals
• Become deeply familiar with NPR, our news desks and coverage, and the public radio system, with a focus on how NPR secures philanthropic support.
• Gain knowledge about and insight into the field of resource development and philanthropy, and how the different teams in a high level development department work together.
• Gain experience conducting donor research and writing briefs, proposals, and interest area updates.
• Learn about the different teams in the Development Department and how they work together.
Responsibilities
• Work with the Development staff at NPR West to support raising and stewarding gifts from foundation and individual donors.
• Conduct research on donors, Member stations activities, and related topics.
• Write and edit internal briefs, funding proposals, and external correspondence – for example summaries of NPR coverage on a topic such as aging or environmental issues, a briefing on upcoming foundation or Member stations events, or a funding request to support NPR’s international coverage.
• Assist Directors at NPR West in maintaining relationships donors, prospects, and Member stations.
