Nickelodeon Animation is looking for an Archives Coordinator with a minimum of 2-years experience in the field of archives and libraries, to assist the Senior Manager of the Nickelodeon Archives and Library (NAL) in the maintenance and day-to-day operations of the NAL digital and physical collections.
• Arranges, describes, inventories and preserves digital and physical assets collected and donated to Nickelodeon Animation
• Assists with the development of Archive policies and helps establish appropriate preservation methods for storage, handling, technical examination, identification, and display, for all assets in the collection
• Creates large volume of high-quality digital images and prints, and consistently and accurately names image files according to established file naming conventions.
• Builds collections for online resources utilized by the Nickelodeon community
• Processes and catalogs a variety of materials such as born-digital assets, film, legacy videotape and audiotape formats, paper materials, and props following newly established preservation procedures and standards
• Conducts condition reports on the status of Nickelodeon’s 35mm film collection and properly rehouses film assets
• Oversees the arrangement, categorization and inventory of assets in the on-site Archives vault
• Utilizes best practices for conserving animation cels, pencil drawings and painted backgrounds
• Updates and assess legacy catalog records to ensure proper metadata has been applied
• Conducts reference work and process requests efficiently to provide adequate reference materials to the global Nickelodeon community
• Troubleshoots and communicate issues that may arise for Nickelodeon Animation employees who use proprietary databases and digital asset management systems
• Provides administrative tasks including, but not limited to, office organization and supply sourcing
• Examines props in our collections and makes recommendations regarding condition of the material for display and travel. Collaborates with other Nickelodeon departments to safely prepare, install, and exhibit objects for internal or external exhibitions.
• Works closely with productions to curate and set up artwork around the Nickelodeon Community
• Oversees Nickelodeon’s Digital Makers Lab by providing maintenance , repairs, tutorials and support for the large-format printer and 3D Printers
• Works closely with Sr. Manager to identify items that should be added to the collection
• Assists Sr. Manager with archive and library outreach
• Supervises and manages NAL intern(s) by assigning daily responsibilities
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degrees in relevant field, or equivalent work experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Hands-on experience and understanding of archival procedures and processes
• Proficient with using a variety of software, including but not limited to, productivity tools, databases, and digitization tools
• Basic knowledge of legacy media (film and video)
• Ability to multitask and flexible attitude due to the nature of the production environment
• Able to meet challenging deadlines and work within complex workflows and schedules
• Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on assigned tasks
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and safely move carts loaded up to 100 pounds.
Additional Qualifications
• MLIS degree, with specialization in archives
• Thorough knowledge of Nickelodeon history is helpful
• Knowledgeable about media digitization and preservations standards and protocol
• Knowledgeable about paper conservation and best practices
• Knowledgeable about current and past animation production pipelines
