The Legal team seeks an experienced and innovative Patent Counsel to become Netflix's first full-time patent prosecutor, as well as assist with licensing and litigation matters. The position will be based in Los Gatos, California, with travel to our Hollywood office. The position will report to the Director of Litigation & IP, and will collaborate with our product, legal, and public policy groups in carrying out her or his responsibilities.
In this role, you will develop and execute Netflix's patent strategy as the company grows and our technological footprint expands. You will partner with the product team to identify promising inventions and manage outside counsel throughout the patent application process, from filing to issuance in the US and abroad. In addition, you will analyze patent purchase and license offers, represent Netflix in industry consortia, assist Netflix's defense in patent lawsuits, and contribute to Netflix's patent policy advocacy.

• JD and member of a state bar with at least 6 years experience in patent prosecution, with additional experience in patent litigation or licensing.
• A background in computer science or engineering strongly preferred.
• In-house experience preferred but not required.
• Excellent judgment, concise communication, and a willingness to tackle matters outside area of expertise.
• Strong and interesting views on patents, legal issues, technology, and media.
• A sense of humor, which is hard when working with patents.
