Director, Business & Legal Affairs, International Originals - Middle East
THE OPPORTUNITY
Our International Originals team in Amsterdam is seeking an experienced, intellectually curious lawyer to lead our business & legal affairs efforts for our new and rapidly growing Arabic-language original content slate. This rapidly growing initiative, which is central to Netflix's growth strategy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), focuses on developing and producing original series and films from across the region.
The Director will structure, negotiate and draft agreements necessary to develop, produce and/or license Netflix's Arabic-language programming from script development through post-production and exhibition on Netflix's global streaming service. They should have deep familiarity doing business in the region, strong understanding of commercial terms in the region, and an awareness of the entertainment landscape in-region more generally.
The successful candidate will partner closely with cross functional teams working on Arabic-language Originals -- Content, Physical Production, and Production Finance -- and will be an integral part of the growing Content Legal group in EMEA. They should be extremely comfortable counseling business partners and making decisions that have both legal and business impacts, and should be adept at developing and fostering relationships with their counterparts within the MENA production community.
The role is based in Amsterdam and will require significant travel to MENA and globally.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have at least ten (10) years of post-qualification experience at a firm, production company, studio, talent agency, or other media company in the Middle East with a focus on development and production matters in the film and television space. The candidate should have direct experience drafting and negotiating all forms of rights acquisition and production agreements for scripted television programming (including both above-the-line and below-the-line talent agreements). Must speak fluent English and strong preference for Arabic fluency.
The successful candidate will also possess the following:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical capabilities and judgment.
• Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively cross-functionally, think practically and be solution-oriented.
• Willingness to tackle matters outside area of expertise.
