Responsibilities
Role Summary
The person in this position will serve as the legal point of contact (or ''show lawyer'') for all aspects of projects in development and production by the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Studios, and will handle a wide range of issues relating to the development, production, and exploitation of scripted and unscripted entertainment programming, including script and concept vetting, contract drafting and negotiation, rights analysis, copyright and trademark issues, defamation and First Amendment advice, and other legal matters arising during development and production.
Responsibilities
Identify and analyze legal issues relating to projects in development and production for both scripted and unscripted projects.
Independently draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a range of contracts and other legal documents including agreements for above-the-line talent including writers, producers, and on-screen talent, production services, co-productions, reality show hosts, and participants.
Analyze law and facts to provide concise and production-friendly advice regarding chain of title, life story rights, and other intellectual property issues, indemnification matters, contest compliance issues, matters involving reality show contestants and participants, and dispute resolution.
Provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues, and propose practical, responsive solutions.
Identify and implement improvements to forms and processes.
Partner with NBCUniversal business executives, as well as colleagues in the NBCU Law Department, to discuss and implement best practices and formulate new processes in connection with business needs.
Work with the Legal Affairs team and colleagues in the Law Department on major projects with long-term business implications.
Other matters as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Member of California bar or other U.S. state bar.
• JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of 4 years for Counsel or 7 years for Senior Counsel of entertainment, intellectual property, privacy, First Amendment, defamation, entertainment transactional and/or other relevant experience.
• Must be willing to submit transcripts.
• Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV online to be considered.
• Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be willing to work in Los Angeles, CA.

• Outstanding analytic, communication and organizational skills, including excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work autonomously.

• Comfortable making legal decisions and advising on business risks.
• Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple, wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
• Proactively identify, prioritize, and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively.
• Demonstrated ability, in a positive and practical manner, to approach complex legal scenarios in a thoughtful and analytic fashion.
• Ability to explain complex legal concepts to business and creative executives, build consensus, think creatively, and collaborate with other executives to address business needs.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships across a large organization.
• Relevant in-house experience.
