Role Purpose
NBCUniversal seeks a recent law graduate for a full-time, one year clerkship with the Law Department's Content & Production Risk team. The individual in this position will assist with legal research and advice relating primarily to entertainment programming produced by or for NBCU and its divisions (including NBC, Cable Entertainment, Sports, and Telemundo). This is a non-exempt, temporary position paying $27 an hour at 40 hours per week. The position will last no more than 52 weeks.
Responsibilities
• Conduct legal research on issues that may arise relating to the production of both unscripted and scripted television shows.
• Prepare case summaries and assist in preparation of best practices materials relating to content and production issues, including, without limitation, issues relating to copyright, idea theft, defamation, right of publicity, right of privacy, drones, casting, minors, competitions, hidden cameras, international production and regulatory issues.
• Assist the reality participant diligence group to review participant applications; track and review background checks, medical checks, and psychological checks; interview potential participants; and report potential legal, eligibility, and public relations issues.
• Address and respond to other matters at the direction of manager and NBCU lawyers.
Basic Qualifications
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Experience in a professional legal role requiring strong analytic and organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
• Strong legal research skills and technical proficiency with Westlaw and/or Lexis Nexis.
• Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Eligibility Requirements
• Must be willing to employed be Yoh Managed Staffing and assigned to NBCUniversal for the duration of the temporary assignment.
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
Desired Characteristics
• Outstanding analytic and organizational skills.
• Excellent judgment and common sense.
• Able to effectively and efficiently determine overall project needs, organize project requirements into tasks, and prioritize multiple projects from multiple managers according to deadlines.
• Flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
• Ability to work independently with company personnel and outside counsel and vendors.
• Proven problem-solving skills.
• Prior experience working for a television network or television or film production company a plus.
• Strong technical proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet.
