Responsibilities
Role Summary
This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to lead the HR team and develop and drive the Talent Strategy for Universal City Studio Operations, part of NBCUniversal's Operations & Technology division. Universal Studio Operations is a 1600 employee organization that encompasses a broad range of production, post-production, facilities and broadcast operations at Universal Studios, and other locations nationwide. Universal Studios is one of the largest full-service media facilities in the world with over 30 sound stages, broadcast studios and an array of backlot locations serving both internal and external clients in television, feature film, cable and commercial production. Studio Operations maintains the infrastructure of the 391 acre property including office space, roads, power and more. Almost a self-contained city, the property features a fire station, studio medical offices and three restaurants serving more than 10,000 employees and production staff each day. This position will report to the SVP, Human Resources of Operations and Technology and will also report to the President & GM of NBCUniversal Studio Operations. This position is based out of the Universal Studios Lot in Universal City, California.
Responsibilities
• Partnering closely with the President & GM, NBCUniversal Studio Operations on creating and executing a Talent agenda and strategy for the organization
• Becoming an integral part of the NBCUniversal Studio Operations leadership team, working with department leaders and other key stakeholders to establish a strategic vision needed to support and drive the business
• Leading and developing a Human Resources team; providing goals, direction, coaching, feedback and ongoing communication to the team
• Driving key initiatives across departments, including staffing, performance and talent management, compensation planning, training and development, rewards & recognition, organizational effectiveness and employee communication
• Identifying and recruiting key operations and technical talent for critical open roles and building a world-class bench of internal and external talent
• Provide executive coaching to department leaders, offering feedback and advice on employee and organizational issues
• Collaborating on a strategic and tactical level with operating leaders on a variety of Human Resource and business-related initiatives to support organization and operational goals
• Help to drive change within the organization, to include adoption of new technologies, integration of key new growth businesses and workflows, staffing models, and organization structures
• Uncover, assess and propose opportunities for talent management process and strategic improvements
• Taking the lead on resolving all employee relations and labor relations issues and provide coaching to department leaders on associated HR and labor issues
• Taking a leadership role in working with the labor unions representing certain employees including NABET, IATSE, Basic Crafts and OPEIU
• Understanding and interpreting labor contracts, managing employee populations who are represented by a third party and held accountable to a defined labor agreement
• Providing interpretation of HR policies, practices and procedures to department employees and managers
• Leading Talent initiatives, at times, that cut across the entire Operations & Technology organization
• Working with department leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment which encourages the full use of the organizations diverse talents and abilities
• Acting as an employee advocate while driving various corporate and division business initiatives
• Creating and executing on Employee Survey action plans and driving engagement and communications activities throughout the division
• Partnering closely with HR colleagues, Corporate Affairs, Security, and others on the Universal Lot on any lot-related issues and serving as a credible representative of the lot operations within the HR community
• Providing broad HR support to other organizations as needed
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Related Field of Study
• Minimum 10 years relevant HR experience including employee relations, organizational development, and/or labor relations
• Prior experience managing a human resources team

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong client-support orientation, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and with a wide range of clients, individually and in groups
• Strong employee-relations skillset; can earn trust and credibility with employees in assigned groups
• Previous experience with a technical and represented workforce; HR experience working with mixed represented and non-represented workforces
• Proven influencer; demonstrated ability to coach and counsel both employees and executive-level management
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with senior business leaders, managers, and peers
• Solid knowledge of Labor Relations and studio-related collective bargaining agreements a plus
• Takes ownership; able to establish self as the 'go-to' HR resource for client organizations
• Prior media/television/film industry experience preferred
• Proven track record of excellent follow-through and execution
• Able to deal effectively with conflict and manage difficult employee relations situations
• Effective communicator: keeps all stakeholders apprised of relevant information, status of deliverables
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities in a deadline-oriented environment
