Act Two Consultant, Operations & Technology
The Act Two career relaunch program at NBCUniversal is a 6-month paid, fixed-term role for experienced professionals returning to the workforce after taking time off for personal reasons such as caregiving. The program is open to women and men who have at least 5 years of professional experience and have been out of the paid workforce (in an office/ corporate environment) for at least two years to focus on caring for a child or another dependent. The Manager, Strategy & Initiatives contributes to the Studio's strategic planning efforts, performs market research, conducts internal business analysis, manages process improvement programs, leads high-priority projects and programs, and delivers reports and presentations for executives across the organization. He/she will work with Business Quality leadership and executives and employees across Studio Operations (production services, post production, lighting & grip, property, wardrobe/costume, transportation, finance, and IT). This role is responsible for executing a broad portfolio of strategic projects that create both short and long-term value for the Studio:
• Contribute to quarterly and annual strategic planning / long-range planning processes; collect data and key information, draft presentation material (such as business cases) and manage strategic projects from initiation through completion
• Analyze complex business problems, operational scenarios, and related financial implications; build forecasting models for operations and identify areas of opportunity; draft and deliver proposals that enable senior leadership to make informed business decisions
• Perform and review external market analyses to identify industry trends, competitive landscape, and other forces shaping the entertainment/media business
• Conduct process improvement efforts: Map current state processes, identify pain points and gaps between actual and desired processes and outcomes; analyze root causes; recommend improved organizational processes, policies, organizational structures or systems; document improvement efforts; and regularly monitor metrics and KPI's to measure and sustain performance
• Attend and lead meetings with executives discussing transformative business models, improvement ideas, performance trends, best practices, and other topics related to innovation, new business incubation or business development
• Draft and deliver regular reports for executive leadership including monthly operational reviews, bi-weekly organizational accomplishments and project status reports
• Be a change agent and leader within the organization; help drive a culture of change management that creates value for clients, customers and internal stakeholders
Qualifications/Requirements
• Highly motivated and effective self-starter with a proven track record of project success
• Master's degree in business, economics, organizational/ operations management, engineering, information technology, or related field
• Minimum 4-8 years of experience in a large-enterprise business environment in a strategy or operations management role. In lieu or in addition, 3-5 years of experience in strategy or management consulting solving large, complex strategic and operational challenges with increasing levels of responsibility over time.
• Strong skills developing PowerPoint presentations that effectively communicate complex ideas, analyses and recommendations using graphs, charts, and other illustrative methods
• Strong skills using Microsoft Excel and data, analytics and/or reporting tools to analyze, synthesize and model financial and/or operational data
• Experience creating business plans, developing business cases and/or preparing Return on Investment analyses for strategic initiatives
• Experience conducting business research (industry analysis, competitive benchmarking, VOC)
• Experience, interest and passion for leading cross-divisional change management initiatives, including organizational change, process improvement, and/or technology innovation requiring software development or implementation
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to produce meaningful insights and recommendations
• Experience managing projects (traditional and/or agile), including project planning, execution and status reporting
• Exceptional organization, communication, written, and presentation skills
• Solid interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of employee groups, executive leadership and cross-functional areas
• Proven ability to establish strong relationships and gain consensus on solutions
• Ability to work with optimism and poise; ability to lead and project confidence to stakeholders in daily interactions
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, projects, ad hoc assignments, and deadlines
• Flexibility to quickly shift direction upon request and rapidly integrate feedback into processes and deliverables
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Desired Characteristics
• Education or certification in Process Improvement (Lean, Six Sigma), Quality Systems, Industrial Engineering, SDLC, and/or Project Management (e.g., PMP, Prince2, Scrum Master, etc.)
• Prior experience working in – or knowledge of - Entertainment content production and below-the-line operations
• Ability to work with large data sets and perform quantitative analysis and reporting using enterprise-level tools (e.g., Qlikview, Tableau, Microstrategy, etc.)
