Part Time Paid Internship
Responsibilities
Do you want to work for one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, marketing of entertainment and news?
Universal Pictures International is seeking a detail-orientated self-starter who has previous experience working within a Post Production environment.?Operators will work in a machine room, use editing platforms, encoding software and operate tape recording equipment in a busy internal facility.
An understanding of the importance of content security is a large part of this role. The facility services all of Universals product, and as such, the operator will be working on and dealing with highly sensitive materials.
To join one of our 12-month Internships you will be studying or have no more than one year of experience post your graduating with a degree-level or equivalent qualification.
You must also be eligible to work in the UK without restriction for the duration of the internship.
To ensure that you are considered for the placement that best fits your interest and skillset, we recommend that you apply to no more than 3 placements.
Qualifications
/Requirements
Over the course of the internship, you will cover a lot of ground. Your time will be divided into four sections:
1. Library – (media asset management, data wrangling, data I/O and despatch)
• Be responsible for incoming and outgoing physical and digital media
• Use our library and logging system ScheduALL to manage dispatch & logging, library, and physical media asset management and archiving
• Use media asset management software (MAMs) and various operating systems to manage media within several internal storage tiers in the facility
• Liaise with internal clients, external agencies and other stakeholders
2. Digital Transcoding – (fundamentals of practical work, covering; encoding, transcoding, technical learning, data wrangling, storage, internal processes)
• Digital encoding and transcoding from and to various file types and formats
• Data wrangling, MAMs and long term (LTO) storage
• Re-versioning digital marketing / short form material
• Develop a thorough knowledge of related workflows
3. Dubroom – (Video and tape dubbing, ingest, playout, duplication, tapeless workflows, transcoding, long-form delivery, secure digi-delivery, forensic watermarking, anti-piracy workflows, servicing, technical, versioning and localisation)
• Use a wide variety of software platforms, transcode engines, mastering applications and authoring software (including Content Agent and Clipster) to produce a wide variety of review, mezzanine and final master formats and standards
• Develop a practical working knowledge of each of the following platforms; Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premier and After Effects
• Encryption and secure delivery
• Forensic watermarking, fingerprinting and other anti-piracy processes
4. Dubroom Edit and QC – (expand and deepen working knowledge of all of the above, gain full working knowledge of technical processes, master common jobs and techniques, Quality Control (QC) training, project editing, client edits and more advanced motion graphics)
• Advanced standards conversion
• Build templates and workflows, understanding of how to create your own solutions to technical issues
• Motion graphic versioning / localisation as well as some design and build
• Short form localisation and re-versioning using more advanced graphics, editing and effects techniques
• Creative / project edits as needed
• Quality Control and error logging work
Desired skills:
Although you will learn on the job, and have the opportunity to attend external training courses as part of this internship as mentioned previously, it is desirable if you already have the following skills and abilities:
• Familiarity with at least one of the following; Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere
• Watermarking, an understanding of anti-piracy and the importance of content protection
• Proficiency and understanding of media encoders, transcoders, file types and codecs
• Knowledge of digital workflows, and digital transfer methods
• Awareness of digital cinema
• Ability to understand technical information and relay it to non-technical people
Essential Skills:

• An understanding and interest in the Film and TV industry as a whole, particularly with regards to Post-Production
