Responsibilities
The Managing Editor role will report directly to the Director, Content Strategy. This role will drive editorial decisions for Rotten Tomatoes, which includes, but is not limited to, managing editorial calendars, leading daily pitch meetings, and representing the brand and organization in all mediums.
As part of the team, this member will use excellent writing, communication, and management skills, and have experience with site & platform monitoring tools to analyze and report on traffic, conversations, and other Key Performance Indicators.
Responsibilities
• Manage all daily editorial operations in collaboration with editors, curators, producers, and others.
• Work with stakeholders to set editorial goals, define coverage and develop new features.
• Attend daily editorial meetings to provide feedback, give insight, and listen to pitches.
• Lead weekly meetings to communicate progress, and updates, and offer team support.
• Research and identify topics and content types that will drive traffic; find ways to greatly expand our current coverage.
• Ensure the team is maintaining output targets and quality expectations.
• Provide team management, development, and personnel growth support.
• Work with video, social, design, marketing, ad sales, public relations, and other departments outside editorial as needed.
• Appear on TV and radio on behalf of the brand and represent the organization at conferences, seminars, professional meetings, and employer-sponsored events.
• Ensure compliance with company guidelines, including deadlines, legal practices, confidentiality, and design standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
/Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree (English, Journalism, Communications, or related field) or comparable work experience.
• 10 years of significant experience in editorial publishing or media.
• Have media and journalism experience, with an understanding of fact-checking, and what makes a compelling story.
• Accustomed to working with talent, studios, networks, and industry experts.
• Used to a fast-paced media environment with tight deadlines and pivoting at the last minute to reflect cultural events.
• Aligned with NBCU's values of inclusiveness and equitability.
• Deeply familiar with what does and does not work in digital and social spaces.
• Experience in journalism, communication, copywriting, production, and other relevant fields.
