Responsibilities

We're looking for an experienced Social Media Editor to join the NBC News social team to focus on the growth, distribution and promotion of NBC News' diversity verticals: NBC Asian American, NBCBLK, NBC Latino, NBC Out across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. You will work closely with the NBC News social media editors, the platforms team and editors and reporters across our diversity verticals to build audience and engagement while maintaining NBC News' position as a trusted news source.
This position is represented by the NewsGuild and based in New York.
Responsibilities
include:
• Execute social media strategy and drive audience growth for the NBC News diversity verticals with their premium, first-rate journalism
• Maintain speed and accuracy during breaking news and high-pressure news situations; keeping as many platforms active as news happens
• Work closely with diversity vertical content, select stories daily to promote across social, decide post creation â€'' text, story, video, etc., with an eye for the best way to grow and engage audience
• Work with social teams, platforms teams and editors and reporters to develop creative, original social media posts, video, experiences, focused on audience growth, engagement, and public service journalism
• Manage social editorial planning and calendar for diversity verticals and plan special promotion of marquee work across teams
• Study latest conversations and successful editorial executions on social to share both editorial opportunities and innovation with social team and diversity vertical editors
• Track data, social audience behavior and generate reports to actively look for optimization opportunities
Qualifications
/Requirements
• 3 or more years working in a digital newsroom
• 1 or more years working in social media with a focus on building audience and brand profile
• Experience building social media audiences across
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and others
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication
skills
• Strong writing skills, demonstrated interest in journalism
and diversity journalism
• Editing in a newsroom environment preferred, including
experience with breaking news
• Comfort being an independent self-starter, but also part
of a multi-location, multi-time zone team
• Must be a team player and willing to work night and
weekend shifts during major news stories
• Desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive but
highly rewarding news environment
Desired Characteristics
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Passionate and deep knowledge about social media
• Active awareness of NBC News and MSNBC personalities
and diversity brands
• Experience analyzing social and site analytics, and
generating reports for optimization
• Experience with live television production and/or digital
video production
