JOB DESCRIPTION
Nat Geo, a global cable channel that aims to deepen people's understanding of the world and their role in it, is entering year three of a push into original scripted drama. We are looking for an enthusiastic, engaged intern to help support our growing department.
Our flagship scripted series is GENIUS, an Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated anthology that focuses on the stories and accomplishments behind some of the world's most brilliant innovators. The first season (starring Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush and directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard) told the fascinating true story of Albert Einstein and garnered 10 Emmy nominations. The second season, Genius: Picasso is about the life of Pablo Picasso. It premieres on April 25th and stars Golden Globe-nominated actor Antonio Banderas.
In addition to GENIUS we are in production on VALLEY OF THE BOOM, a irreverent six hour limited series about Silicon Valley's boom and bust in the mid-1990's, from HOUSE OF LIES' Executive Producer Matthew Carnahan. We also have many other projects in active development.
Applicants should have passion for the entertainment business and specific interest in Nat Geo's programming and mission/values. They will be assisting the department in many aspects of creative development and production. Duties will include reading scripts, writing coverage, entering information into grids, updating development reports, doing research projects and some basic administrative duties. We are looking for someone who is innately curious and eager to learn.
Current projects and tasks that will be assigned to the intern(s):
• Script and general project analysis, writing script and book coverage, identifying talent (writers, directors, actors)
• Basic assistant duties i.e. phones, general office and administrative tasks
Learning Objectives:
We endeavor to give you exposure to the creative process, an overview of the entertainment business and specific entry-level job skills so that you not only learn more about Nat Geo but also walk away with the skills and experience necessary to help launch a career in TV.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled undergraduate student, sophomore status or higher
• Strong interest in learning Cable TV drama
• Motivated, self-sufficient, with a can-do attitude
• Avid reader, strong written and verbal communication skills
• Computer and research skills, including deep proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint for Mac
To participate in Fox's Internship program you must meet the following criteria:
• Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university and be sophomore status or above
• Be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship by the Company
• All students must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
