JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Digital Creative Director for National Geographic will define the visual direction and user experience for our owned and operated and licensed digital products. This role will work closely with Product, Technology, Editorial, Brand & Marketing and Advertising teams to deliver experiences that delight our consumers and meet a wide range of enterprise goals. The ideal candidate has extensive experience creating product design systems, impeccable typographic skills, and a desire to build human-centered content experiences that amplify our storytelling while serving the needs of our audiences on our website, on a mobile device, or on a partner platform. Leading Digital Design, this role will cultivate and empower a strong Product Experience Design team, and will build relationships across National Geographic Partners to understand the business, priorities and opportunities for exceptional creative internally and outside the company.
Responsibilities
• Direct and guide the visual design and user experience across a broad range of digital products including our owned and operated websites and apps, branded and licensed consumer products, sponsorships, visual storytelling, membership and video.
• Foster a design-forward culture through clear direction and meaningful and measurable results.
• Work as a core member of the Digital Products team. Collaborate on strategy, priorities, process and communication. Collaborate with stakeholders to refine content experiences and anticipate opportunities for new ones.
• Ensure that the product design work is consistently excellent and up to our high brand standards.
• Encourage a deep understanding of our consumers and the multiple platforms on which they consume our products and content.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Graphic Design, UX, HCI or equivalent with 10 years of relevant work experience.
• HTML, CSS, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Sketch, JIRA, Confluence
• Thinks in rems, not pixels.
• Deep creative leadership & design management experience.
• Proven ability to lead design in a large organization across multiple departments.
• Expert knowledge of user-centered design principles.
• Expert knowledge of responsive design.
• Expert skills in ideation, wire framing, user flows and information architecture.
