JOB DESCRIPTION
The Research Editor for National Geographic Traveler supports the magazine's production by working collaboratively with the editorial staff:
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate editorial meetings for National Geographic Traveler staff
• Document and manage workflows for the edit team
• Assist with photo rights & clearances
• Manage research and copyedit contractors; circulate and input revisions
• Manage contract and billing issues related to contractors and content producers
• Clean-read magazine pages before production
• Manage the calendar, meetings and internal coordination for the EIC
• Pitch and write front-of-the-book stories for Traveler magazine
• Contribute reporting and writing for Traveler digital and other publications
• Track and manage applications to SATW, NATJA, ASME, Best American Travel Writing
• Organize office space for magazines and supplies, circulating copies of subscription magazines, etc.
• Curate and conceive front-of-the-book story ideas.
• Source and cultivate freelance writers for our front-of-the-book sections.
• Collaborate with the photo and design departments
• Collaborate with internal and external partners, including Nat Geo Expeditions/Lodges; Nat Geo Books; Nat Geo Travel Digital; and advertisers for sponsored content
• Write pages not assigned to freelance writers (i.e. Contents, Masthead, Opener, etc).
