Search for Sr. Director, Legal and Business Affairs jobs in Santa Monica-CA
Primary Responsibilities:
• Structure, negotiate, draft, and review a wide variety of publishing agreements, including administration, co-publishing, purchase, sub-publishing, modifications, extensions, etc.
• Liaise with other departments to provide legal advice on contract, copyright, and licensing issues.
• Respond promptly to requests from various internal and external clients.
• Work with outside counsel on litigation matters: Review claims, coordinate responses to discovery requests, review answers, etc.
• Advise internal departments (including digital and synchronization licensing) on legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures, approval processes, copyright issues (including statutory termination rights), company policies and procedures, intellectual property, and agreement strategy.
• Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• JD degree and good standing of the California bar.
• 5+ years music publishing legal experience.
• Strong drafting, negotiating, analytical, and organization skills.
• Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking.
• Team player with ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Self-starter who should be extremely comfortable working independently
• Ability to handle high volume of transactions and interact with various departments.
• Ability to consistently work under pressure in a professional manner.
• Ability to effectively interact and communicate at all levels including Sr. Management, songwriters, attorneys, etc.
