Summary
The Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs will be responsible for the negotiation of deals for the development, production, distribution, and marketing of feature films . The ideal candidate must be able to function independently while drafting a high volume of deals.
Responsibilities
• Negotiate a variety of production, distribution, and development deals
• Draft and finalize applicable agreements, including all above-the-line talent agreements and rights agreements
• Successful presentation and preservation of rights acquired or commissioned from third parties and above-the-line talent
• Analyze contracts in response to business and client group questions, as well as to provide necessary contractual/research information to other department members and Executives (to assist in business development, litigation risk assessment, etc.)
• Develop and maintain relationships at major talent agencies, law firms, financiers, production companies, and relevant industry contacts
• Lead negotiations with agencies, studios, and other industry partners
• Analyze and draft documents for litigation matters and rights disputes
• Supervise outside counsel engaged to assist to assist the Company when required
Requirements
• JD degree and member in good standing with the California Bar
• Ability to carry negotiations through final execution of agreements with minimal amount of supervision
• Strong multi-tasking ability, quick and decisive thinker in a fast-paced business environment
• Understanding of agreements for major entertainment guilds (WGA, SAG, DGA, etc)
• Ability to work collaboratively with Producers and Accountants to structure agreements
• Preferred experience as a practicing entertainment attorney at a law firm or in-house, with pre-existing industry relationships with
agents, talent, studios, and producers
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organization, and time management skills
• Sound business judgment and ability to manage multiple matters and conflicting client needs
• Ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly and communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
• Assertive, detail-oriented, and able to accommodate tight deadlines while working with a heavy pipeline of deals
