Summary:
The Senior Broadcast Engineer supports the broadcast facilities, hardware, software, and infrastructure of the Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center, including in house video production studio, audio studio, broadcast data center and numerous editing, audio, and graphics stations. The Senior Broadcast Engineer interacts with and supports in house TV production team, external truck broadcasters, NBA network, Marquette University network and various entertainment acts. The Senior Broadcast Engineer is a full time employee inclusive of Event Day Operations.
The in house Video Production system is an IP Core (Arista/Imagine Communications) running SMPTE 2022 with Ross Acuity production switcher and Ross Expression graphics two (2) two-channel systems. The system has 5 wired cameras, 1 wireless cameras and 6 POVs throughout the arena. Recording/slow motion is too two (2) EVS-XT3, two (2) Simply Live Video recorders and two (2) Aja KiPro Ultras. Standard frame synchronizers are used for cross conversion when connected to external broadcast facilities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide technical support for our studios, master control systems, cameras, and lighting.
• Provide training and support to technical and production staff in the audio/video studio.
• Maintain broadcast functionality and distribution, digital and analog.
• Perform regular checks on equipment to ensure functionality.
• Perform repairs to studio and field gathering equipment.
• Assist in maintaining broadcast and storage servers.
• Maintain spare parts inventory.
• Communicate with technical support from equipment vendors.
• Stay current on broadcast technology.
• Design and recommend broadcast solutions.
• Help media and production teams execute broadcast plans.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or requested.
Qualification Requirements:
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience in related area.
• Five years of experience in TV broadcast involving responsibilities such as: TV broadcast engineering, video equipment technician.
• Knowledge of Boolean and digital logic, circuits, signals and currents.
• Intermediate electrical engineering skills.
• Ability to solder, work with various power and hand tools.
• Must be able to deal with complex, detailed workload.
• Must have strong customer service orientation.
• Must have strong communication skills that allow for working with individuals of varying levels of familiarity with these systems.
• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. of equipment. Work on ladders, under raised floors and in the presence of electronics will be required.
• Prefer experience in: PC, Macintosh, and Linux computer hardware and operating systems, Ross Switcher, GVG Camera Base stations, EVS Media Servers, Cisco Vision System, Daktronics LED System, Editshare media editing, tagging, and storage system.
