Position Summary:
Support the Vice President of Communications and Broadcasting in the day-to-day operations of the Communications Department with specific responsibilities to include but not limited to publicizing the team, writing news releases, coordinating interview requests and game day operations. Oversees all player and uniformed personnel appearance requests. Oversees production of the team's annual media guide.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Media Relations:
• Create and develop strategies, content, ideas, approaches and media opportunities for players on the team and within the organization; also assists with media requests for team executives and personnel;
• Oversee the production and distribution of the team's baseball information, which includes daily press information materials, statistics, history, scorebook and records;
• Assist in directing and coordinating news conferences and related media operations;
• Serve as a team media relations representative on select road trips during the season; serve as club spokesperson on occasion;
• Develop and maintain relationships with local and national baseball/sports media in an effort to forward the story of the Miami Marlins organization;
• Foster a positive relationship with Clubhouse players and staff
• Support all departments within the organization with all media publicity;
• Work with the Director, Business Communications to coordinate media publicity ideas and strategies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Must be detailed oriented with excellent communications, organization, interpersonal, writing and editing skills;
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills;
• Able to work under pressure in stressful situations, prioritize workload, delegate, meet deadlines and handle last-minute projects;
• Must work flexible hours including weeknights, weekends and holidays;
• Travel as directed by Vice President, Communications and Broadcasting;
• Possess strong computer skills to include but not limited to Microsoft windows, word, excel, e-mail, internet, Adobe products (InDesign, Photoshop), power point and database management.
• Possess strong knowledge of baseball and history of the game.
Suggested Education & Experience Guidelines:
• Seven years of professional sports or college experience in a media relations or sports information role
• Bachelor's degree in sports management, journalism, communications or public relations.
• Spanish is a plus
