Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. ("MGM") is seeking an experienced Content Engineer. In this role your primary responsibility is managing media qualifications and media workflows to ensure that MGM video transcoding formats, standards and quality are met. They assist in the development and support of transcoding workflow automation. This role will also create and maintain CODEC standards and develop automated QC analysis profiles and workflows. Responsibilities also include affiliate technical onboarding, technical spec qualification and testing in prep for content delivery.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain media encoding & Transcoding platforms, to ensure the highest accuracy, stability, performance and quality
• Work with partners and be the primary party responsible for onboarding with content endpoints
• Ability to look at a requirements/onboarding doc and create a workflow based on the criteria
• Create metadata templates and automations for delivery endpoints
• Creation of QC profiles to ensure integrity of a package before delivery to an endpoint
• Setup delivery workflows to endpoints (Aspera, SFTP, S3, Signiant, etc.)
• Establish and maintain operational capacity metrics for all media processing platforms to include, encoding, transcoding, editing and analysis
• Create media processing documentation and workflows to be used by Content Operators
• Work with internal teams on product enhancements, new specifications and delivery requirements
• Stay up to date with CODEC specifications, media compression platforms, media analysis platforms and software technologies
• Research new concepts, methods, and technologies relevant to media processing and distribution architectures
• Provide weekly Content Engineering work and capacity reporting
• Participate in internal and external business calls and meetings
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Media Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
• Studio, MSO, Broadcast programming exposure with expertise in VOD or LIVE/Linear
• 3 years of experience with video/audio codecs MPEG-4/h.264, h.265, MPEG-2, VC1, J2K, ProRes required
• Experience with MAM, PAM and DAM systems
• Experience with Adaptive Bitrates MPEG-DASH, Apple HLS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming
• Experience with open source media libraries such as ffmpeg
• Experience with Interoperable Master Format (IMF) SMPTE standard and practices
• Experience with scripting languages like Perl, shell scripting and Java
• Experience with Linux and Windows
• Experience with Jira, Confluence
