Full Time Unpaid Internship
Job Summary:
Marvel is looking for interns to help run its in-house library. Our library contains comics throughout Marvel's long publishing history, which is the foundation upon which our current comics and even our film and television properties are based. Employees often refer back to older comics to proof collections of comics, provide character references to artists, research story ideas and find images for new publications and web articles. The library interns fulfill requests for comics and collections from members of the office and update the catalog of the library collection, ensuring employees have quick and easy access to the material in our library.
Responsibilities:
Library interns are responsible for the day-to-day activity of circulating comics and books – pulling comics and collections requested by members of the office and placing those comics and collections back into library after they are returned. Additionally, the library interns catalog newly published comics and collections, adding information about them into our library database and placing the books in the proper locations within the library. Older comics and collections already present in the library collection but not yet in our database also are catalogued as we work to ensure all material in the library is documented and accessible. The library catalog is used to easily search for, retrieve, check in and check out all reference comics. Library interns are involved in every step of the process, helping to mold the most accessible system possible.
Basic Qualifications:
Marvel library interns must have a strong interest in library science with a clear understanding of the cataloging and care of comics. Interns must be able to work independently and solve problems. Marvel prefers students who have had experience working in a library.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Resume must outline other internships, degrees earned, work experience, related clubs and organizations, current major course of study, expected graduation date and extracurricular activities.
• Cover letter must include a personal introduction, and days/times available during internship period.
• Preferred Junior or Senior-level standing
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Required Education
• Enrolled in a Library Science program through College/University by arrival date
Additional Information:
