Job Title: Creative Director
Department: Digital Marketing Department
Reports to: VP, Digital Marketing
Manages: 10 direct reports
Departmental Goal: To build Lakers' brand affinity and the future fan pipeline by creating daily, engaging team content and leveraging digital platforms, while also helping other departments reach fans and publish their content via in-arena and digital platforms.
Position Summary: The Creative Director will be responsible for spearheading a team to develop advanced and innovative, fan-centric marketing content and campaigns. It will work in conjunction with the VP of Digital Marketing in leading cross-functional department strategies. Furthermore, it is responsible for leading a team of designers, video producers, editors, content specialists, social media specialists, and production staff to create comprehensive digital, social, promotional and branding campaigns across multiple mediums designed to engage fans and drive business revenue (sales across ticketing, suites, and corporate partnerships). It works closely with IT to identify new technology, flagging vendors that might support the long-term digital marketing vision. This position works closely with Corporate Partnerships, Broadcast, and Media Relations to build the Lakers brand, and works cross-functionally to assist the comprehensive use of in-arena assets and digital mediums by other departments.

Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities**):
DIGITAL MARKETING MANAGEMENT
• Provide oversight to the visual identity and brand story of all creative assets
• Ensures brand consistency across all platforms, including online, marketing, events, and in-arena for Lakers, South Bay Lakers and NBA2K team
• Oversee the concept, design and art direction from inception to completion for digital platforms, marketing campaigns, and all branding representations
• Manage creative strategies and designs to create sketches, briefs, decks, compositions to fulfill organizational mission and vision
• Constantly reviewing, assessing, and re-designing creative and project management processes to improve creative quality and increase the efficiency of projects
• Generate departmental goals and develop production schedules while motivating staff to stay on schedule, under budget, and meet departmental goals
• Supervise a creative team by delegating work, establishing strategies, coaching, and setting a standard for polished and high-quality work
• Provide direction to the creative team to develop creative briefs, copy/scriptwriting, storyboards, and mood boards.
• Augment creative strategies through the examination and understanding of digital reach & engagement numbers
• Provide leadership and oversight to 6 full-time and seasonal Digital Marketing staff members, while fostering a team-oriented atmosphere
• Interview, train, and assist new employees
• Governor all content posted in-arena and to Lakers Digital Marketing outlets
• Ensure compliance and integrate NBA League marketing/advertising initiatives and best practices
• Work closely with the Creative Services Manager to properly determine team member resourcing and allocation, timing and deadlines, and work with cross-functional teams to capture requirements
DIGITAL MARKETING CONSULTANT ACROSS DEPARTMENTS
Media Relations (MR):
• Establish cohesive branding and messaging when breaking news and executing promotional campaigns across all media platforms
• Work in conjunction with MR department head to break team news on digital platforms
Corporate Partnerships (CP):
• Provide support to the CP department by acting as a digital elements project manager
• Conceptualize and implement concepts and creative strategies to bring them to actualization
• Deliberate new sponsorship opportunities, as well as identify the rate card and value for each digital element sold
• Brainstorm creative digital elements to add to prospective contracts
• Have a deep understanding of contractual digital elements and establish an activation schedule, while constantly communicating to confirm executed digital elements
OTHER
• Represent Lakers on all League calls related to marketing, digital, and analytics
• Design and implement other special Digital Marketing projects (e.g. app for kids)
• Perform other duties as assigned by the, VP, COO, and upper management
**Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management.
Education
(Required/ Preferred): Bachelor's degree (required) in graphic design, media arts, marketing, advertising or communications. Advanced education is preferred
Previous experience:
• A minimum ten (10) years working marketing and digital
• A minimum of five (5) years managing a department
• Expertise and background in the following areas: brand design, product design, web, digital content, and video production (strongly preferred)
• Experience in a creative leadership role, with a passion for helping team members grow through mentorship and management.
Technology Capabilities:
• Experience with or ability to code in HTML/ CSS
• General understanding of website design and content management systems
• A familiarity with digital advertising on various platforms
• Thorough understanding of existing and emerging social media platforms and familiarity with utilizing and evaluating performance measurement tools and metrics, including Google Analytics, Omniture, Facebook and Twitter analytics, Tweet Reach, IconoSquare and other forms of social dashboards
• Adobe Creative Suite
• Salesforce (or related CRM platform)
• Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Windows)
• Experience with Project Management Software (Jira, Trello, Wrike, etc.)
Knowledge, skills, abilities:
• A passion for basketball and the sports industry
• A passion and talent for creative strategy, conceptual thinking, executing, and paying attention to the smallest of details.
• Deep understanding of social media, broadcast, audio, and print strategies and production
• Intimate understanding of design, video production, copy, social media, and website best practices and guidelines
• Strong understanding of marketing planning and execution, as well as elements involved in marketing execution: insights, strategy, media, creative and digital
• A demonstrated ability to connect all elements of Digital Marketing (words, technology, visual content, analytics, etc.) and create a cohesive vision
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to be an effective manager
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interface with employees at all levels within the organization, and bridge gaps between departments to create better synergies and internal buy-in
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make instant, quality decisions
• A logical approach to problem solving and detailed-oriented
• A prolific online portfolio demonstrating experience with leading Brand and creative strategy
• Stay ahead of technologies and the most current web, social, video and design trends
