Job Scope:
The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing, documenting and maintaining all technical workflows for image manipulation and management within the Company. The Technical Director will work internally and externally to make sure the most appropriate pipeline is implemented and to make sure image manipulation is performed by following the highest level of professional post-production finishing industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Company's image workflow beginning in dailies through the final deliverable process for each of the Light Iron Facilities (LA, NY, ATL, NOLA, ABQ and future locations).
- Work with every major department in the Company, such as Sales, Production, Engineering, Operations and Finishing Artists as an advocate for true image continuity and quality control in each process.
- Employee must demonstrate expertise in a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures. Areas of concentration include:
o Imaging Science
o File formats including raw camera data
o Image measurement and SMPTE standards
o LUT design, building and verification
o Documentation and communication of each workflow and tools required for the various steps in the process
- Create proposals to improve ongoing image quality in all stages of the post production process
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with outside company manufacturers and vendors
- Research technological innovations to determine potential for implementation; allocate time for off-site training and product demonstrations
- Participate in planning/creation/exhibition of Company programming, seminars, and webinars
- Represent the Company at industry events, panels, and presentations
- Remain on-call after hours for emergency support
- Document, publish and communicate workflows and execution process effectively to the internal team, external clients, 3rd party vendors and partners
- Act as a good steward of the Company's resources, planning for short-term and long-term needs
Skills/Experience Required:
- BS in related field and at least 10 years' experience in the specific Image control arena
- Understanding file based technologies for post production finishing services, including various hardware/software platforms (e.g., Colorfront Transkoder, BlackMagic Resolve, Rohde & Schwarz Clipster)
- Expert knowledge of technological trends to build strategy including HDR and Dolby Vision
- Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate all levels of staff
- Experience in thinking and acting strategically and proactively in a very fast paced environment
- Strong technical writing/ presentation skills
