Post Production Sys Admin, Tier 3
The Post Production System Administrator, Tier III is a senior member of Light Iron's technology team, responsible for the direction of IT and Engineering support and related deliverables at our NY facility. Working closely with the Engineering and Operations groups, s/he will collaborate to identify requirements, needs and solutions to effectively fulfill post production offerings and innovate new capabilities for the business Prospective candidates should have a minimum of 10+ years of directly relevant experience within a similar role.
Qualifications
include possessing a strong technical understanding of feature and episodic post production workflows, techniques and tools, in addition to an appreciation for respective creative and operating team objectives. The successful Post Production Tier III System Administrator will be self-directed, with an appetite to lead, manage and mentor junior level engineering team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Tech-Ops
• Deploy and support a range of hardware and software capabilities, including: Quantum StorNext SAN, Arista
Network Switches, Palo Alto NGFW, Cisco Meraki wireless controllers, iX System FreeNAS, and Adder/Avocent KVM's
• Utilize security and administrative best practices, maintain/support computer OS systems, including Linux, MacOSX
and Windows Servers
• Support configuration and calibration of industry standard color reference monitors, DCI compliant projectors and
theater audio systems
• Direct video routing and color grading room setups
• Support on-set / near-set dailies deployments
• Oversee trouble shooting of post-production color grading systems
• Rapid response engineering support for all internal, external and client facing services
Network & Infrastructure
• Lead engineering oversight of premise, data center and cloud hosted capabilities and offerings
• Manage the rollout and maintenance of Palo Alto firewalls for onsite and remote use cases
• Oversee Linux configuration and deployment of services, at scale
• Improve storage reliance and performance
• Automate facility workflows to improve media movement
• Optimize networking (e.g. for Dailies business) for performance and WFH limitations
• Identify opportunities / paths to continuously improve performance of network
Applications
• Lead maintenance and support for all current and future state Light Iron application systems, including: DaVinci
Resolve, Filmlight and Baselight, Colorfront Transkoder and EXD, DVS Clipster, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Avid,
WAN transfer applications Aspera Faspex, Signiant Media Shuttle, and Sohonet products
• Research 3rd party products / services to identify the best tools / capabilities suited for new business requirements
Engineering Management
• Develop, hire, and mentor a world class post-production services Engineering team
• Proactively drive budget management and technology investment requirements for all Engineering needs (current
and projected)
• Collaborate with operations leads on facility infrastructure requirements, including build / modifications
• Manage and remediate end-of-life services and gear
• Stay up to date with industry standard tools and practices to maintain cutting edge technology capabilities
• Exceed expectations in the oversight of technical engineering support and requirements for the business
• Evangelize Light Iron's post-production offerings and technical strengths
Skills & Experience Required:
• 10+ years of directly relevant experience
• Appetite for maintaining post-production facilities in an engineering leadership capacity
• Passion for conceiving and delivering leading post-production solutions and services for customers
• Strong desire to manage, mentor and develop engineering teams
• Balances independent work with team management - capable of leading several projects at once
• Bias for action and ability to deliver mission critical support in a timely manner
• Fosters strong working relationships with technical contacts at client facilities and studios
• Thrives in situations where s/he can contribute within a cross-functional operating environment
• Strong writing and verbal skills, particularly in communicating technical processes in a non-technical manner
• Analytic with a comfort level for drafting technology requirements and investment cases
• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work: This position works both a standard business and after-hours operating schedule; shift assignments and/or weekend work are frequently required.
Travel: Some out-of-state/country and overnight travel may be expected.
