KTXL FOX40 is looking for an aggressive and enterprising journalist who can dig up impactful and exclusive stories through their contacts and ingenuity. This is a great opportunity for a person who thrives on juggling multiple projects at once and is flexible enough to envision future opportunities on the horizon while still attacking the needs of the moment. This person needs to be self-motivated who doesn't require being pushed by managers to be productive. You need to be a catalyst for Special Report generation and production while being in charge of weekly promotable segments.
Major Purpose: Working with news managers, reporters, photographers and producers --- this person will be key to special report coordination, integrating those stories into our day-to-day news coverage. Duties include setting up locations and interviews, writing stories, field producing, fact-checking and providing logistical support for field crews. Organizing weekly special reports as well as major sweeps stories will be a large part of this person's job. Producer might be asked to help write and/or work the assignment desk as a fill-in.
Special projects includes packages, podcasts and documentaries.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
•Must have solid news judgment
•Must be a consistent and solid broadcast news writer.
•Must be creative, flexible and able to act decisively
•Knowledge of investigative techniques and research databases
•Work well in a strong team environment
•Strong organizational skills
•Strong social media and web writing skills
Working Relationships:
•Must work closely with anchors, assignment desk, executive producers, photographers, writers, reporters, and news management.
Supervisory Responsibility:
•None
Training Requirements:
•General safety, OPUS, TONS, VizRT
• Internet posting programs
Physical Demands:
•Required to sit for long periods of time
•Heavy computer usage
Personal Protective Equipment:
•None
Work Environment:
•Work performed primarily in an office newsroom environment, but field work may be required occasionally
•May be exposed to electrical equipment and loud noises
Education and Experience:
College degree in journalism or related field along with 5+ years of broadcast newsroom experience required (assignment desk, reporting or producing. etc.).
