JOB TITLE: FIELD REPORTER
DEPARTMENT: NEWS
REPORTS TO: News Director/Executive Producer
Responsible for the accurate reporting of news stories. Submits ideas for news reports, covers news stories assigned by management, reports live-from-the-scene breaking news and will often be asked to report on non-breaking informational subject matter for sweeps or other Fox 5 programming. Must be able to describe events happening during live broadcasts, integrating factual information in a compelling story telling style where by ad-libbing live during feature segments with a strong ability to interact with anchors in studio. Works with the photographer in the video taping and editing of a story. Keeps the Executive Producer (or line producer and/or assignment desk) updated on stories. Will file stories to all platforms-on-air, online and mobile. Develops community contacts and a network of news sources. May serve as a fill-in anchor as needed.
Qualifications:
Must have undergraduate degree or equivalent related experience. Prefer 3-5 years news reporting experience in broadcast or print in a medium to large market. Candidate will posses excellent journalistic background; effective broadcast communication, excellent writing and good organizational skills. Must be able to accept constructive direction and criticism designed to enhance individual's performance. Able to appear live in a broadcast to deliver reports in a professional and effective manner. Stays informed on current affairs. Can perform duties and make decisions under extreme pressure. In line with reportorial duties, Fox 5 will require that individual to leave the building to cover news stories, be available to be assigned to all broadcasts and maybe required to work additional hours or days. Also, must be capable of interacting positively and productively with other employees.
