The Company promotes transparency, equality, respect, and inclusiveness and plans to grow with the benefit of people from a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds.
KEW is looking for an entertainment attorney with production experience to join our Los Angeles team, as a Director of Business and Legal Affairs. This is a 4-6 month contract, with the opportunity to become a full-time role.
The individual will report to and work closely with the Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs and will act as in-house counsel to KEW's subsidiary production companies. The individual will have exposure to many aspects of the entertainment industry with an emphasis on non-scripted and documentary-style television. Further, the candidate will also assist with non-entertainment related issues, such as legal support for human resources, handling of employment matters, facilitating business transactions, and other legal matters that arise. An ideal candidate will bring a background of diverse experience - applicants with some production experience plus experience in a complimentary practice area (for example, litigation, labor and employment, guild, risk management, agency, music, or other unique experience) are preferred.
DUTIES
• Provide support for the Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs.
• Draft and negotiate above and below-the-line agreements for television and other audio-visual projects.

• Draft and negotiate production contracts and releases, including talent and participant agreements, materials releases, guest appearance releases, and location releases.
• Assist clients with clearance of their projects, including: (i) drafting and negotiating licensing agreements with respect to use of third party content, (ii) conducting fair use analyses and if necessary, preparing corresponding fair use letters for insurance, and (iii) conducting review of creative decks, footage, episodes, and films to advise on levels of risk related to copyright, trademark, defamation, invasion of privacy, violation of publicity rights, and other potential legal claims.
• Assist clients with union/guild (e.g., SAG-AFTRA, DGA, WGA, IATSE, etc.) matters and related issues.
• Negotiate and draft non-disclosure agreements, service agreements, employment, and other ordinary course-of-business contracts.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Ability to handle a high volume of work and to work independently with minimal supervision.
• A positive, tenacious and energetic can-do attitude.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Zealous attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• An excellent work ethic and commitment to professionalism.

• Analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, strategic thinking, and legal reasoning skills.
• Strong project management, time management, and long-term planning skills.
