Purpose of Role
Evaluate digital distribution partnerships that monetize EMI's content via new consumer offerings, new business models and new products. This role will be located in our New York office.
Key deliverables:
• Develop business case for deals
o Perform financial modelling of deal terms and assess financial viability of new business models
o Conduct primary and secondary research around digital music consumption, mobile and cable networks, advertising and other areas related to digital media
o Conduct detailed revenue projections for new digital partners
o Write clear, concise explanations of deals for senior management decisions
o Complete Post Implementation Reviews of deals, as required
o Support preparation of deal documents for internal approval
• Assist on deal negotiations and structuring of innovative digital partnerships
o Help EMI negotiators and partners build new, sustainable business models
o Analyze proposals and changes to deal terms
• Support Business Affairs (Legal Dept) during drafting of contract
o Communicate business intent of deal
o Participate in discussions on detailed legal document changes with EMI lawyers
• Provide valuable input into digital distribution strategy
o Research new digital business models and consumer trends
o Identify and screen new digital distribution partnerships
o Update global pricing guidelines
• Provide operational support to deal execution
o Follow up with Finance, supply chain, marketing and other groups to ensure proper execution of deal
o Address operational problems that require business development support
• Assist in the integration of Digital Distribution/New Media/New Technology priorities into EMI's core recorded music business
Essential Requirements
• Outstanding analytical skills, business acumen and financial/mathematical skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work well under pressure, including the ability to deal with high volume and frequently changing priorities
• Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, reasoning, and time management abilities
• Strong interest in, the digital music industry and the challenges / opportunities we face as our industry changes
• Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access, SAP and other in-house databases. Although training can be provided, candidate should have strong IT skills.
Desirable Requirements (any one of these, but not all are required)
• Technical and/or quantitative undergraduate degree preferred (e.g., Engineering, Science, etc.) preferred but not required
• Degree from top tier undergraduate program
• Experience working within a digital entertainment environment (e.g., internet/tech start-up) and understanding of electronic media technologies, and web 2.0 developments
• Pair advanced quantitative and analytic skills with common sense and solid business judgment.
• Ability to see whether a partnership makes sense (i.e., a ''nose for value'')
• Use creative ways to acquire primary research and generate assumptions to build well thought out revenue forecasts
• Match new technology trends with emerging business models/consumer propositions and ensure EMI Music is positioned to become a first mover, where appropriate
• Take ownership for assigned deliverables and ensuring tasks are completed on time
• Provide consistent error free results in all analytical analysis and presentation material
