POSITION
Breakthrough's Program Director is responsible for establishing, managing and maintaining the excellence of Breakthrough's programs; conceiving and leading creative campaigns, initiatives and productions; seeking and establishing game-changing partnerships that deliver Breakthrough's unique work to a wide range of stakeholders in key markets worldwide; and managing a team of skilled producers and interns. The Program Director is a senior-level position within the organization and plays a key role within the global senior management team.
The ideal candidate is an extremely creative and entrepreneurial leader, a flexible and enthusiastic team player, an excellent manager and a compelling public speaker. He or she has expertise in mainstream advertising, corporate and cause marketing, and public relations. He or she has experience conceiving, producing, and/or managing elements of global or national pop-driven campaigns, particularly those with human rights or social justice themes and/or with men and young men as key constituents. Knowledge of program monitoring, evaluation and reporting is a plus.
The Program Director works in partnership with Breakthrough's president to co-create programmatic campaigns and initiatives.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee all U.S.-initiated Breakthrough programs: develop and direct program strategy; match producers with campaigns and initiatives; monitor program implementation
• Lead and manage the development of high-impact campaigns - U.S.-initiated, with global reach - that reflect Breakthrough's unique approach to promoting human rights
• Collaborate with the communications strategist to ensure maximum reach and impact of campaigns and messages
• Present Breakthrough's work to external audiences, including funders, media and conferences
• Lead on monitoring, evaluating and reporting on all U.S. program activities
• Create and implement annual program plan for all U.S.-initiated activities, goals and outcomes
• Identify and develop partnerships within the creative, entertainment, and new media sectors, along with corporate brands, governments and funders
• Monitor and manage workflow schedule for the U.S. program team
• Collaborate with global program team
• Serve as a visionary leader within the senior management team, working to ensure the overall success and growth of the global organization
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• 5-10 years experience leading or working within a team on a high-level cause marketing, corporate marketing/advertising, branding and/or communications campaign with national or global reach
• Experience using media, arts and/or pop culture to increase public interest in a social issue, consumer product or personal behavior
• Experience working in a global environment with a strong awareness of cultural sensitivity
• Experience working in areas of creative production and audience engagement
• Experience working with high-profile artists, global leaders and other public figures
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
• Excellent analytical and project management skills, including: time management, forward planning and prioritization skills, the ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines, and a proven track record of owning projects from start to finish
• Experience in managing staff, leading a team and overseeing the work of staff and external consultants
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and work in a team effectively
• Strong knowledge of digital marketing and social media
• Sense of humor, energy for challenges, and passion for innovation within the field of social change
• Multilingual skills are a plus
The candidate should have the ability to work in a small, informal nonprofit setting.
