IndieWire: Craft Reporter
If you're a writer and reporter who loved the production design on ''Mare of Easttown,'' obsessed over the cinematography in ''The Underground Railroad,'' and believes that the sound department is the unsung hero of entertainment, IndieWire has a job for you.
We're looking for someone to join our small and rapidly growing Craft coverage team - an entertainment journalist with a particular passion for behind-the-scenes talent, or someone with on-set experience who has a talent for journalism. Either way, you should be a self-motivated lover of television and movies who is familiar with the top creators and a passion for capturing how they translate their visions. This position can be based in our West Los Angeles headquarters or in our Midtown Manhattan offices.
This job hinges on the ability to translate the often-complex and little-understood talents that create our favorite TV shows and movies. You should have experience in writing clearly and concisely about film and TV craft, as well as strong interviewing skills. Working closely with the
Deputy Editor, Craft, you will track the most exciting work, the creators who make it, and identify the angles that will appeal most to IndieWire readers. This can also include moderating live and recorded panel discussions as well as working with video or podcasts.
Although you'll be talking to craftspeople about what they do, technical knowledge is not nearly as important as a curiosity that will lead you to the best stories. You should have some knowledge of production and Film/TV history, and how technological advances and modes of production shaped the evolution of both.
Our ideal candidate has at least three years' experience as a journalist, and has clips that represent the kind of work we might expect to see at IndieWire. Please include links to three clips along with your resume and cover letter.
