Full Time Job
WLKY is hiring a Digital Desk Editor who will man the assignment desk, coordinating coverage and monitoring breaking news; as well as create/contribute content to our digital platforms. The ideal candidate is an excellent journalist, a multi-tasker who can communicate, write effectively and handle the deadline pressure of a newsroom. This person should also be a positive, energetic, hard worker.
Job Responsibilities:
• Manage assignment desk, work with crews, answer phones, monitor local news/social media
• Assist news management with content gathering
• Assist producers, photographers, digital editors, and reporters with story gathering
• Write/edit and publish breaking news, daily news, sports, weather, and feature stories for all digital platforms
• Manage live streams of newscasts and breaking news
• Other duties as required
• In-person attendance is required
Experience Requirements:
• Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
Qualifications Requirements:
• Strong news and editorial judgment
• Must be organized and able to multi-task
• Excellent communication skills
• Must be polite and professional when dealing with the public
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
• Ability to remain calm and level-headed during breaking news situations.
• Willing to work a variety of shifts including weekends and nights.
Education:
• College Degree in Journalism or related field
• Hearst Television is a proud supporter of military veterans. Defense Information School (DINFOS) or other related military training and experience will be considered.
