Summer Internship: Newsroom Digital Intern
Job description: Do you want to start your career in a fast-paced newsroom while learning how to be an online producer with a focus on audience growth? Do you have a passion for news and a desire to work on a major metropolitan digital team while building your skills? We're looking for an ambitious, versatile journalist to join SFChronicle.com for a summer internship. The digital intern will have experience working as a reporter, website producer or social media editor, likely through another internship. Digital storytelling skills, social media know-how and technical acumen are of the utmost importance in this role. We need a self-starter with high standards who can collaborate well, has excellent communication skills, and is comfortable providing and taking feedback.
Requirements:
• This position is a 12-week paid internship that runs from June through August.
• This position will be scheduled 40 hours per week.
• Start times and scheduled days will fluctuate throughout the internship.
• Other weekend, evening and holiday work may be required as news warrants.
Duties:
• Create posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media channels for the Chronicle brand.
• Examine analytics and work up insight reports for editors.
• Program the SFChronicle.com homepage and section pages with the proper content, balancing sharp news judgment and writing skills and using real-time analytics.
• Arrange assets with an eye for detail on article pages.
• Work with digital project managers, editors and writers on innovative packages and new ways of storytelling.
• Help manage breaking news alerts and newsletter campaigns to drive engagement.
• Assist with our audio program that produces a slate of podcasts.
Who we're looking for:
• Some newsroom experience
• Bachelor's or master's degree track, journalism focus preferred
• Excellent social media skills
• Sports literacy a plus
• Understanding of media ethics
