SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

If you are social media savvy, love digital storytelling, and enjoy reading analytics and social tea leaves to spot story ideas and drive audience growth, Hearst Newspapers wants you for our new digital media brand.
We are seeking a full-time social media manager for our fast-growing new digital journalism venture rooted in the Hudson Valley and Capital Region. This is a key role in delivering on our audience development strategy, and we welcome an ambitious self-starter to help blaze our future path.
Your Duties on the Team
• Strategize with our editorial and revenue teams to launch and grow our social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest
• Collaborate with digital editors and writers to develop click-obsessive, omnichannel storytelling packages that span social platforms
• Develop and maintain a social calendar that supports our daily journalism and amplifies this growing brand
• Create link posts and social-first original content that reflect a distinctive social voice, sharp copy, and POV
• Track, share and analyze data to find new inroads for scaling our audience, and boosting engagement and referral traffic
• Keep apace of the latest social media trends and update the team on best practices as our resident social expert
• Spot trends, potential sources and story ideas in your social listening, and share with the larger editorial team
The Skills You Would Bring to the Team
• Command of social media platforms and metrics tools to drive audience engagement and supercharge our audience growth
• Dimensionalized digital storytelling chops: how does one story cascade uniquely across various social channels?
• Comfort with photo and video editing tools, content management systems
• Idea generation: find and share a steady stream of ideas to enhance our social storytelling to drive a daily audience habit
• Excellent communication and writing skills, particularly understanding the distinct voice and tone required of different social platforms
Requirements
• 2-3 years of relevant social media experience in a media, nonprofit, or digital-information environment
• Hands-on knowledge of digital media tools, such as Photoshop, metrics tools, and content management systems
• Experience managing social media channels and working on creative and innovative social media campaigns for a high-profile brand or brands
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Digital Media Studies, Communications, English, Literature or related fields from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this role
• Experience in, and understanding of, the region that includes the Hudson Valley, Capital Region and Adirondacks
• Ability to work autonomously from a remote office while maintaining open communication and a collaborative spirit with the team
• Strong editorial judgment and understanding of media ethics
